on the baby rice box it says 2 mix rice with babys usual milk. her usual milk is breast milk, but i dont hav a pump although i can hand-express 100ml just about!

would it matter if i made it with one of them formula cartons instead? and which should i use i get confused with all the different types and brands.

if i do use my own milk, i can only really express in the morning, and we give her her daily mouthful of food at lunchtime. should i make it up and refrigerate it or leave at room temp?

what do i make it up in, bowl or bottle?

oh gosh hun sorry can't help you but.

can't believe it hun, what a milestone

If you use the ready made cartons then it could work out quite expensive as you have to discard the rest of the carton after you've only used a bit. If you don't fancy expressing and using that milk (btw I'd express in the morning and refridgerate the milk, then use it at lunch time to make the rice after warming the milk through as if you make the rice in the morning it will be runny as water by the time you come to use it as the milk will break down the rice) then I'd buy a box of formula so you could make up enough as you go along to add to each meal. I use cows milk in DS's food as you can use that to add to food after 6 months, but when I tried him with food before he was 6 months I used either EBM or formula from a tub.

I would just express a little bit of milk in the morning in to a sterilised bottle and then keep it in the fridge until you need it to make the rice at lunch time. You could use formula but you would probably end up throwing loads away if you were to buy cartons as they can't be kept for long.

Hi Trixipaws,

I just hand express a little bit - you only need about 15ml (1/2 oz) per flat teaspoon of rice. This is about a table spoon.

I am no good at hand expressing but what I do is squeeze my nipple (sorry of tmi...)and a little bit will come out, I then rub this on my nipple and it kind of lubricates it and makes it easier to just squeeze a little bit more out. Over the last week I've got better and can now get the 15ml in less than a minuite - save all that sterilising, although I do the bowl, spoon and the teaspoon I get the rice out of the packet with.

Hope this helps, let me know how you get on x x x

I did the same as Natalie and would just express a bit as needed. You really do only need a little amount.

Hope you find a way that works for you.

Good luck :D
