I thought I would start a new thread rather than fill up the other one!

I LOVE your barge! How long have you had it? Whats it called?
What are the running costs like for a barge?

We are still torn and dont know whether to do canal or sea so please let me know what your experiences are and also how safe canal boats are for kids.

Anyone else on the forum got a boat?

Ill try not make this an essay

My boat is called Snails Pace We brought it last Febuary from Used Boat Co. (they are a lovely set of people, especially Richard)
It was a wreck as some old bloke lived on his own in it and has run it down. We are slowely getting there. Pregnancy kinda got in the middle off that
We cruise under constant cruising because we dont have a permenant mooring. This cost approx £700 per year. Its worked out on the lenght of your boat, ours is 55ft.
Diesel is quite cheep, if the government stop piss arseing about and cruising we use about £1 / £1.50 and hr
Electricity is from our batteries (like car ones) water is free from waterpoints (Im sure we pay enough in the licence)
Gas bottles we have two 13kg bottles and they lasts us a year.
Then coal is £5 ish a bag and the logs we have about 2 ton in storage ( bloody farmer OH )
What else....... ummmm

Boats are safe for kids yeah as long as the obvious precautions are taken. Lily loves spending the weekend on our boat. We just ripped out our newly fitted bedroom to turn it into a nursery

My mum and dad have a narrowboat aswell

Theres is only 3yrs old my dad built it from scratch, they just brought the bare shell.

Cant think of anythink else, probably because its 1am
