Just wants to be held

Hi

I had Macy one week ago, and for the last week she has been amazing but the midwife came Saturday and told me I had to feed on demand.
Macy wouldn't latch and it was advised at hospital we should formula feed. I was there for 2 nights and 3 days due to her not feeding.

When we got home we somehow got in a pattern that I would wake her every 4hrs for a feed or she wouldn't wake. But the midwife said it was wrong and I should leave her. Today she has cried all day fed every couple of hrs, and I can't put her down or she screams.

Is it just a one day thing or should I try and get the routine back?

I would say as she's only a week old to follow her lead, it's a big scary thing being out in the big wild world. She will settle and find a routine (that may or may not suit your needs) but there will always be good days & bad days

The first 6 weeks you need to pander to babies needs. Being born is one hell of a shock! Enjoy the cuddles!

I agree with the others, take her lead. She will go through stages of feeding often when she is having a growth spurt and will have stretches of going longer, then it will all change again! Definately enjoy the cuddles xxx

I agree just feed when she wants it. They do suddenly find their appetites after a few days as they are not as sleepy from being born and also work out what crying is for so you can have a few days where they cry a lot!

Thanks girls. I didn't want it to come across like I don't want to demand feed, I just worry a lot!!

Plus with the hormones I don't think my DH knows what is going on at the moment.

The first week is so hard! You're both exhausted and still emotional and on top of it all you're still getting to know your baby.
She'll get herself back in her own routine soon enough xxxx
