i knew something wasnt right, my work agreed to allow me to return to work part time (i was a full time manager before)

theyve blatently replaced me with somebody but given her a different title and a couple of extra duties so i cant say theyve filled my place.

i got a call this morning to say that my team is no longer needed and we are all being made redundant! :(

im on my own with ella i havent got a clue what im going to do now, i want ella to grow up seeing me work so she knows i have to earn the things she has (no offence to anybody on beneifts but its just not the road i wanted to go down)

best get job hunting!!! :(

Sorry to hear this lovely :( what idiots. You'll be fine don't worry xxxx

Is that legal since you've been on maternity? Have you spoken to citizens advice?

apparently, as they cannot afford to keep the department running they are keeping the woman who they employed whilst ive been off to act as a PA to the MD (full time) and then outsourcing the call centre abroad.

shes covered her back by saying her loyalties lie with me so if i wanted to come back full time i can take the PA job (the other woman is still in her probation) but she knows i dont want to do full time and has offered me £1600 to go. its only a little family run business with about 25 staff ive half expecting it to go downhill

my redundancy date is with effect from june 1st.. the day i was meant to go back to work :( my agreed part time hours were so perfect and my mum was going to have ella it would have been perfect :(

part of me is happy i get to spend more time with ella but it feels like the biggest effort in the world having to apply for jobs and go to interviews!

It could be the making of you! You could find a job 10 times better! Chin up! You've got plenty of time. What knobs for doing that to you tho!!!

i didnt think they could make you redundant when you were on maternity :( gutted for you hon xx

They've probably got around it because her redundancy starts on the day she was going back not while she's still on mat leave, if that makes sense.

Common misunderstanding that people think because you are on maternity leave you can't be made redundant... unfortunately you can. Happened to me too chick :hugs: I start my new job on Monday though!! Much better hours for the family, ok the pay is no where near what I used to earn but this suits me better for the next few years. Although I'm only on a temp mat cover contract. It's a job at a school so I get school holidays too. Worked out best for me in the end, I never would have left my old place and actually I didn't like working there. Only stayed for the great pay, hated every minute. They shafted me too, but I managed to get just over £5000 off them. I'd been there 9 years, feel I should of got more but got only statutory minimum plus hols. I also got all my mat pay until the end of the 9 months too xxx

My cousin was being made redundant on maternity leave, they rang her back the next week and said she could stay if she accepted a promotion instead, lucky moo.

I don't know what you did before, but as someone whose done the whole single mummy thing before I can tell you that if you wanted to train to do something else you could use the benefits you're entitled to to your advantage.

I went off and did my nursing degree when I was single and although I lived off a bursary and student loans the fact I was on my own meant I got my rent, council tax, and childcare paid for. I make a lot more money (and pay A LOT more tax) having gone on some benefits for a year or so than I ever would if I just went straight back to my old job after LO's dad and I split up. Just an idea. You could wait til Ella is a bit bigger or even look for something part time.

Agree with the above, maybe use the benefits you're entitled to to train in something worthwhile and what you want to do, I'm not a single parent or on benefits but if it came to it I'd accept thwm for however long I needed, at the end of the day its not forever and don't feel like a scrounger as you've paid tax all these years so its time to get a little bit back :) xx

So sorry this has happened :(

But, as said above, you could use it to your advantage. Being on my own has meant I can go back to college and apply for nursing. So being jobless and single isn't all bad :)

I never even considered doing that!! That's actually not a bad idea! I did start health and social care at college so could use this to my advantage and finish it off!

Thankyou

I totally sympathise with you, I have also been made redundant last month. Techniquely they can make you redundant (although if you were prepared to go back full time it would probably be unfair dismissal). I found that maternity action were really helpful in letting me know my rights http://www.maternityaction.org.uk/
If there is a suitable alternative they do have to offer it to you but thats about it!

Its annoying having to look for work (I am too) but you have a bit of time so thats good :)

Oh no, sorry to hear this chick. I'm sure you'll get something else no problem.

Good luck

xxxxxxx

Just catching up!

I am so sorry chick :-(

I hope you find something else.

Hope your ok xxxx

Could you not accept the full time role and then split it as a job share? I think they have to offer you flexible working if it is possible. It sounds to me like you could do the PA position and only do it part time if they took another part timer? It wouldnt cost them any more then and they could even offer the other half of the job share to the girl doing it now.

I think you should draft an email pointing this out! Good luck xxx
