is it a waste of time?

My boss phoned me earlier as he is worried we have chicken pox at work (I am a Teaching Assistant)
I phoned the midwife a few weeks ago now when it all started and she said I was fine as I have already had it.
But this afternoon my boss has been talking to the Dr and is worried and thinks I should make an appointment.

Is it just a waste of theirs and my time going to be told the same I have been trying to think if there is anything else I could ask so it is not just that

The only thing I can think of is my midwife has brushed under the carpet my heart flutter and my twisted spine saying I will be fine but do I double check with a Dr.

I just don't know if to make an appointment tomorrow.

I work in a school too, and the first time I heard about chicken pox I panicked too!

Spoke to my midwife, and as I wasn't sure if I'd had it or not, they did a blood test and found that I had the antibodies so was protected....basically, if you've had it before then you are safe to be exposed to it in pregnancy as you can't get it again.

If you aren't sure if you've had it or not, get the doctor to do a blood test.

If you haven't had it then you are treated by a simple injection from your doctor.

Hope that helps - your boss sounds lovely to be so concerned though!

I haven't had chicken pox but never caught it when my 2 brothers and sister had it so they tested me to see if I have the antibodies (I can't make out if I do or not though as I cannot understand my blood test results LOL)

I am sure it is nothing to worry about but maybe make a GP appointment just in-case?

least your boss is being cautious, sure your fine, like the others said you probably have the anti bodies.

I work at a school and my boss neglected to tell me we had two cases of slap cheek in school :-/

I think if you've had it beofr you should be ok?

I'm panicking atm as alot of departments and wards have been closed in the hospital im on placement in due to the norovirus! And one of the doctors has been off with it for two weeks x

If you have had chickenpox before, there is a chance to get it again.
In adulthood, it's called shingles.
You should take measures to ensure you are safe and you should go to your GP to get your blood tested.
They do have an injection to protect you against it. Maybe ask about that as well.

Singles is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox when we are young. When this virus reactivates then it's called shingles.
It's rare for people to suffer from shingles but could happen as once chickenpox virus enters our body, it doesnt die. It just gets suppressed by our immune system

Shingles and chickenpox are both the varicella zooster virus but once you've had chicken pox and have developed the immunity to chicken pox the virus lays dormant in nerve tissue. You can catch chickenpox from someone who has shingles (if you have never had chicken pox before) but you cannot catch shingles from someone who has chickenpox. Shingles reactivates itself completely randomly. if you are unsure if you have had chicken pox you need to have your immunity checked as there are risks associated with chickenpox and pregnancy and newborns, esp in weeks 12-20 and the 2 weeks before and after delivery If you've had it before you are fine

Babyem, norovirus is supposedly no risk for pregnant women.... yet I would personally be extra cautious as dehydration in pregnancy is not great and vomiting and the runs is just going to make an already immunocompromised pregnant lady feel shocking get risk assessed, even though the official nhs stance is no risk you should find them a little understanding and help you avoid obvious risk situations, good luck xxx
