since ryan's been on more "solid" food (2 meals a day, just been upped to 3) he's not as interested in breastfeeding anymore. that probably sounds silly, but he's so easily distracted, and never seems full up afterwards anymore and he genuinely doesn't seem as interested in it anymore.

i don't mind, as he's coming up to 6 months, i just thought that was a bit early for him to just want to stop breastfeeding himself...

he's not a big boy, just under the 50th percentile but he eats a lot of food. it just seems to be a bit of a comfort thing for him when he wants to sleep and the dummy doesn't cut it..

love you too mid

Try taking him to somewhere quite and away from distraction to give him a feed? As far as I can gather they need to have breast milk (or formula) as the primary source of nourishment until they are 1 yrs old. I used to use Ellies bedroom, as we always kept that very calming (no toys, or pictures or anything to get her excited) so that she would sleep better.

I read somewhere that at about 5/6 months babies find feeding a time to socialise so maybe he is just destracted by his surroundings?

melissa is the same since she been on 3 meals per day she hardly has any milk. she has no milk during the day anymore only at nite and even that doesnt seem like much. i just substituted BF for formula for 24 hours and i could see exactly how much she had- it was only 330mls in 24 hours and that includes what i make up her porridge with! which is only half as much as she should have. i spoke to a HV at baby clinic today she said try sneaking in dairy products into their diet- giving cheese and yogurts and fromage frais, and mixing milk into veg ( :puke: !)

Is he interested in some feeds more than others? I found it depended how hungry they were when I offered it with mine. I used to use bf as an in between meal snack with mine. Kind of like a biscuit! They used to take an amount I was happy with and as it was a 'snack' i stopped expecting so much to be taken so was never disappointed. It's a tricky one!
