I stopped taking mebeverine as the doctor advised but im having such trouble, im always extremely bloated and its becoming painful now. Its making sleep difficult and work too. My midwife suggested taking Aloe vera capsules but i was wondering if anyone else has any tips that might help before i start taking anything more.
I read that IBS usually eases up for most women when pregnant i was also wondering if it ever does past a certain point or something or will i be forever bloated/ uncomfortable?

I also have ibs but new to preg feel v bloated also xx

Me too! I took myself off my tablets years ago as they really didn't help and my IBS symptoms have changed loads in the last 10 years. However now I am suffering and constantly bloated but higher up and under my rib cage at times. Not found anything to help yet, not eating doesn't work, being sick (morning sickness) doesn't help and the pregnancy slow down of the bowel is making it worse!! I think I need to do some exercise to try to encourage it all to keep working... hope someone has some ideas though. Also congratulations on your pregnancies x

I am having a terrible time with my pregnancy and IBS hun, it's currently not as bad as was, but still hurting and I know the slightest thing will set it off again. I am also hoping it will improve as the pregnacy goes on, but I have read that pregnacy either makes pre-existing IBS better or worse, and I think for some of us, we just landed on the worse side. Sorry thats not much comfort

Im going to try aloe vera capsules feel like a beach ball on legs x

Sorry your all suffering too, i have looked online and i can't find much else really that seems to have a significant effect on treating it. I think im going to try those aloe vera capsules and keep my fingers crossed that they work.

My stomach has become so bad with this pregnancy, if i accidentally knock my tummy gently or if i gag (Sorry TMI, i have bad morning sickness) or even drink too much water or eat more than say a sandwich at a time my stomach inflates like one of those puffer fish. Im only just over 9 weeks but i look around 20 weeks. Is anyone else this sensitive?

Before i was pregnant i would sleep on my stomach and by the morning i wasn't bloated and felt fine but now obviously i can't do this anymore and im waking up as big as i went to bed. Does anyone have any tips on relieving the bloat?

The doc too stopped my tablets but hospital put me back on them as I was addmitted in agony. Had LOADS of gas last night and pain isn't as bad today.

So talk about going back on them hun.

My doctor said its fine to be on them as they are an anti-spasmodic medicine so it should have no effect on the pregnancy but there have been no tests and studies to determine that its ok to take during pregnancy hence doctors telling you to come off it when pregnant. Im going to try the Aloe vera first but if it doesn't work then i think i will have to go back on mebeverine.

Ah kinda like Metformin then - some say stay on them and some say come off them etc. NICE guidlines get updated in July I think.

My IBS was awful, I suffered from diarrhoea and painful bloating during my first trimester, and my doc put me on Codeine for the diarrhoea which did help with the pain from the bloating as well. I was on Mebrevine before becoming pregnant, but they moved me over to Dicycloverine (sp?) once the diarrhoea eased. I was told that these were better in pregnancy?!? I only take them when I need to and they seem to work quite well. Is there anything you can do diet wise to help?

I was on codeine too for back pain once i found out i was pregnant because your not allowed ibuprofen, but im allergic. For some reason i can't breathe properly with codeine and just one pill leaves me feeling like im completely drunk, its horrible. I've tried taking paracetamol but it doesn't quite cut it and i don't want to be filling myself up with it when pregnant. Dicycloverine sounds promising though, are there any side effects? Diet wise i run a tight ship, my partner has crohns and i had(Have?) poly cystic ovaries and obviously ibs. Once i found out i had both i did my research and created the best diet possible for us both.

Mine has been terrible the last week or so, my doctor stopped my tablets but didnt advise anything else! I am just trying to avoid thing that I know may trigger me off and keep my stress levels low but my o/h will/is being made redundant today or tomorrow :(

Oh no im sorry to hear that. I know its hard but you need to keep cool over it all. My life is pretty chaotic too, my partner is bedridden with a heart problem and crohns, im the only one who can work, money is tight and now by some complete miracle im pregnant. Im not complaining as life is amazing and im happy with what i have and we are over the moon i could even get pregnant (I have a nice case of PCOS and we're rarely intimate due to both our heart problems) But still im the happiest and most relaxed i have ever been in life. The best thing to do is not to worry, it will only make you ill. I know its easy to say and hard to do but look at it this way, what ever will be will be and things always turn out ok in the end.

I wish you all the best with your partner and his job. Things will be fine in the long run and you just need to keep cool about everything.

I haven't experienced any side effects from the Dicyc. They were prescribed by one doctor, I was told not to take anything by another doctor, but my midwife is much more relaxed about it all - she said that at the end of the day I need to be happy and healthy for an easier pregnancy. I was taking Immodium before the Codeine, and again my midwife was ok with this when I was really suffering. I think doctors are more cautious as their books tell them that there is no research in the use in pregnant women, and they ignore the further comments of there should be no issues with the use.....
The Codeine made me feel awful for about 2 hours after taking it, but it stopped the diarrhoea (which had got really, really bad). I think I took it twice....

Just dipping in from ttc. Can't reccoment pepermint oil tables enough. Superdrug used to sell them but not all stores have them now. Available from health food shops. also pepermint tea is good. I have ibs and ulcerative colitis and can't function without pepermint. Good luck i hope you feel better. Xx

Oh no you have both? Im sorry to hear that as i know ulcerative colitis is bad enough without ibs. Is it just work for the pain or does it ease the bloating and everything else?

Thanks a lot though i'll try it xx

Can ease bloating and gas. Good when you know you've eaten something you shouldn't. I'm lucky in that mine uc is well controlled at the moment but it can be a real problem at times. X

Hi

Me and my boyfriend have just started trying for our first baby together but i take mebeverine for my ibs which can be really bad at times and i don't know when i should stop taking it now or when i find out i am pregnant. I have recently changed doctors and am having a nightmare with them tbh and i asked whether i should stop now or later but they did not give me a straight answer.

Please Help :(
