Hi
Is anyone doing ante-natal yoga? I want to do some sort of exercise whilst pregnant and I am not keen on swimming. I have seen some info on an ante-natal yoga class near me and want to ask if anyone else has done it or is doing it? When not pregnant I normally keep pretty fit on the cross trainer but had to stop that coz I went dizzy too much, and I feel like a bit of a lump at the moment so I really want to find something that makes me feel a bit better about myself. That might sound stupid I know it's great to be pregnant and all that, just having a bit of a frumpy time of it at the moment!

Hi,

I start on Thursday (15th) and can't wait....no idea what they will be like, 2 hour sessions so I hope it's not exhausting but apparently it's split into sections, and you have fruit tea half way through (and a biscuit!!) and it's a great social thing too. Looking forward to it actually, shall let you know what I think of it. I'm not sporty, I hate excersise and also feel like a fat frumpy hippo so the "review" isn't coming from anyone sports enthusiastic or anything, it will be completely honest!! :rotfl:

Ha ha we all feel like frumps!
Brilliant, let me know how you get on and good luck with it. Already sounds good though...
:)

I am not doing ante-natal yoga but have been doing normal yoga on and off for about 9 years now. It is great for pregnancy. My teacher had had 3 children and she taught the whole way through each time.

There was a guy called Scott posting on here a few months ago specifically about ante-natal yoga - so do a search. He had some really useful information.

There are no special classes where I live so will continue to go to my normal class.

"Guy called Scott" reporting for duty

Prenatal Yoga is great, but then since I teach I would say that wouldn't I :rotfl:

As Nicola says there's a big social aspect to the class - ours isn't long enough for tea and biccies, but we always start off with a good natter where people can air problems and fears or share good news and changes with the group. I also do more partner work in Prenatal Yoga classes and the class love that, a little bit of teamwork. I've already eased two of the girls through SI pain, another one had been in constant pain for 19 weeks and it left after her first class - not promising miracles, but sometimes it just hits hte spot exactly.

Is there anything in particular that you want to know about Yoga, Sarah? Let me know and I'll try my best to answer. It's all about experience though, so the best answer to any questions would be to go along and try.

Take care,

Scott

Thanks for this Scot, much appreciated.
I have booked into a class tomorrow night for 2 hours - it's specifically prenatal yoga and there's a lot of relaxation work too which I am looking forward to!
I'll let you know how I find it I'm looking forward to it now. Feel like I am doing something positive towards making it a healthier pregnancy which after the monster sized butty I have just eaten can only be a good thing.

I've started yoga and am loving it! It means I can do some exercise but not worry too much about over-exerting myself - the instructor told me where to be careful in my stretching and I feel fab!

Just wish I coud find a specific prenatal class near to me...

So how did the class go Sarah?

Rachie I just sent you a PM with a link to help you find a class near you wherever you are...

Cheers,

Scott

Hi Scott
I had to cancel it on Thursday afternoon, but I am booked in to start now next Thursday. I was really disappointed, I have been having quite bad ligament pains in my lower belly - doc said I should rest up, so I did, and they are still happening but much better. Yoga teacher agreed I should just wait until I am not in any more pain. I will be there on Thursday all being well so I will let you know how I go I am even more up for it after I had to miss out on thurs!

Thanks for asking
:)

scott could you pm me that link too please? im interested to know if they do it here. something i may look into :)

i like this idea, i used to do kickboxing until 18 months ago and was very fit and weighed 45 kg, now ive gained 15 and feel like a fat-ass!

does anyone hav a link to find classes in my area?

Never seen that book Keslo.

I've said it before, I'll say it again - be very cautious about "learning" Yoga from books or DVD's. If you try this you will pprobably end up making shapes with your body, which I guess is what most people think it's all about anyway. If you possibly can, then try to go to a class - even a non-specialist yoga teacher is better than a book.

If you do go with the book or DVD, remember that the advice given is general. You are an individual and maybe your body doesn't work the way it's being shown. So if something doesn't feel right, don't assume you're doing it wrong and keep going - it may be that the posture/practice is wrong for you.

If you're buying a book I'd recommend something by Francoise Barbira Freedman or Wendy Teasdill.

A general question on links on this forum. When I first posted here I had a post removed for providing a link to help people search for prenatal yoga classes in their local area. I was told this wasn't allowed. Yet I've seen people post links since then. Just wondering what the deal is as I think the link would be useful to many people (and it's not commercial or a link to my own company or anything like that LOL). Anyone know the answer to that?

Cheers,

Scott

Can you PM me the link too please Scott. I'd love to find a class in my area.

Thank you!
