I want to start solids closer to 5 months. I was just wondering, will Ralph automatically drop milk feeds or should I reduce them for him? Also do you start giving them solids say breakfast and tea or just lunchtime? I'm a little confused

I'd keep him on the same milk to start with and then reduce the amount later on in weaning. If you start with breakfast then he has plenty of time to digest etc whereas starting him off at dinner time risks sending him to bed with tummy ache x

defiantly agree with starting with breakfast... but would defiantly not advise cutting down his milk, let him do it naturally, as until one yeas old milk is still their main source of nutrition. My son is just 13 months and has just started to drop off an oz off each milk feed, often more! best of luck xx

Yes he'll let you know when he wants more food/less milk x

Do you start giving them water aswell at that stage? X

I didn't introduce water until about 7 months (we started weaning at 5.5 months) as we took weaning very slowly, and my LO wasn't a very big eater, so was still on his full feeds, and didn't see the need for water. when we did introduce it, he hated it! I'd play it by ear, but you can always offer water while doing breakfast etc xx

I just let Phoebe reduce her milk gradually by herself, they'll only have as much as they want. I agree, I started with breakfast too, at least that way if he is to have allergic reaction to it, you'll spot it during the day and of course gives him longer to digest it :)

yeah they drop their feeds on their own, alyssa barely has 1 bottle a day now but still bf when she wants and i try to give her 3 proper meals a day and snacks, i started with milky rusk for breakfast and then added fruits to it over a few weeks then she wanted lunch and then added a tea etc. theres no rushing about it that way :)
i give alyssa baby juice or water in a sippy cup too at mealtimes
