internet help for my mum

Hi all

was wondering if you lot could help me.
My mums just brought a PC and got the internet she knows nothing about it at all.

I live about 200 hundred miles away so can't help, so have decided to write and send her a document on the basics of usfull things she'll use the internet for.

ei online banking, ebay email attachments ects.

I know all this is easy but I thought she might apprieate the help.
anyway what I'd like to know is what sort of things you guys think I should put in it.

Using explorer - Deleted files/history/cookies - I do mine weekly.

Doing disc clean – I do mine weekly.

Defragging your PC - I do mine once a month.

Anti-virus program - AVG free version is what I use.

If your mum isn't familiar with a PC then I wouldn't advise a firewall. XP has one built in anyway.

If a program/explorer page is not responding & you cannot shut it down pressing CTRL & ALT together then pressing DELETE will bring up another window where you highlight the none responding site & click END NOW.

Have you thought about getting her one of the books in the "dummies" series? I think there is one called internet for dummies and others. You can probably get them cheap off ebay or Amazon. My Mum used to be computer illiterate and then got a PC and knows more than me now, she'll be away in no time!
