We fly to South Africa on Brody's 1st Birthday.

I was planning to keep buying formula for him, as it has all the extra stuff cows milk doesn't have, and he still doesn't sleep through without a dreamfeed.

We are going for 2 weeks, so thats 2 boxes of formula I'd need to take cos they don't sell it over there.

What do you lot think?...I know it would be mega-convenient to just use cows milk.....but I don't know if it would fill him up enough so he would sleep through, and I don't know if he will be eating a lot of jarred food or not so the extra iron and stuff in the formula will be better for him.

Also...he's never had cows milk in a bottle, only on his cereal, so what if it doesn't agree with him?

What would you do?

I'd take it with you. I wouldn't bother switching him onto a foreign milk, getting him used to that then switching him again to English cows milk at home. And as you say, it may not agree with him and that would be no fun while he's on holiday. Play it safe!

Thats a hard one hun. I think it's totally down to you as to how you feel about it. They say they can drink cow's milk from 12 months so I would say he would be fine with that. Cow's milk does tend to be more filling for a baby than what you would think. Aaron never slept through and cow's milk didn't change his sleeping pattern much to be honest. If anything he slept a bit better because he would take more cows milk than formula. It's only now he's sleeping better could be because he's eating bigger meals or cos he older I'm not sure. You do what you feel is right for you and Brody, good luck :D

I'd take formula with you.

We had OH's daughters little girl to stay a couple of months ago and we gave her semi skimmed instead of full fat milk and she had a belly ache all night. They're obviously sensitive to any changes so I'd take formula just to be safe :)

ild take formula. i wouldnt want to makes changs while going away just incase hes not happy with it etc. and cows milk is not going to fill him up through the night like formula would x

Don't know how much postage is, but could you post some over to your in-laws so it doesn't take up your weight allowance?

Would you not consider switching him now so he has chance to get used to it before you go? Aimee is on cows milk now and i was worried about changing her over but it has not made the slightest differnce. She does drink a bit more of it than she did with baby milk but eveything else has stayed the same. I switched her over gradually and started giving her cows milk in the morning and baby milk before bed. At least if you could do that it would mean only taking one tin of food.
