I had my 16 week M/W appointment today and it went so well. I heard my little one's hearbeat for the first time  I had been resisting buying a doppler in case I had trouble locating the heartbeat but I think i have to get one now...it was so cute!

The M/W thinks that it is a girl because of the speed of the heartbeat - has anyone else's M/W had a guess and got it right/wrong????

She was also really supportive when I said that i wanted to have a homebirth if possible :cheer:

I just cant stop smiling :D :D :D

aww thats fab hun  - midwives (obviously depending on their experience) are very good at determining the sex from the heartbeat! They all knew i was having a boy- also they look at bump shape!! and they can tell from looking at scans too..something to do with the shape of the head!

:cheer: :cheer:

awww bless :D

its great when you hear baby's heartbeat isnt it??? :cheer:

my midwife has never tried to guess what baby was - we know now anyway

I really dont mind what team we are but I just want to know now so I can start the shopping!

3 weeks and 3 days until hopefully I get to find out

I cant! I even got M/W to move my scan appointment forward a week as before I was not due to have it until I was 21 weeks!

awww glad it went well hun  its lovely hearing the heartbeat ive not heard my babies yet glad your midwife was supportive about you having a home birth too :D xxxxxxxx

i know how you feel i as so excited when i heard the heartbeat for the first time, nearly made me cry especially when the midwife said hello mummy when she was doing it lol :D

That's great news! Will be really interested to see if your midwife is right. My midwife has never attempted to guess. She doesn't know its a boy so I might ask her what she thinks it is going on the heartbeat at my next appointment to test her!!!!

Aww thats great hun!! :D
I cant wait to find out if she was right!! :D

awww, glad all went well hun   and glad you heard the babys heartbeat :cheer:

:cheer: :cheer: :cheer: so glad it went well :cheer: Do you know what the speed was? Mine was 165 per minute at my 12 week scan. I have had a midwife appointment on Wednesday and she wouldn't listen to heartbeat saying that if she can't locate it then it would make me anxious. I have nearly had an argument saying that it's in my notes and she should do it for me. She brushed me off and carried on talking about my last scan... I said: " no worries, I have a doppler and will listen myself ! She started laughing at me saying that I have to stop panicking and start enjoying my pregnancy " I was so upset..
.. luckily I have a great doppler and tried it at home that night and all was well. I am thinking of asking for another midwife.. what do you think?

Hi Petra

Sorry only just seen this. My M/W didnt tell me the heartbeat rate and ive checked on my records and it is not on there either

Not sure about changing your M/W...I can see that she doesnt want you to panic which is nice but equally it is important to feel comfortable with her... is there another one at the same practice? There is only one at mine. It might be a case of out of the frying pan and into the fire!

My midwife listened to the heartbeat at my 16 week scan but told me she shouldn't really because it can be very tricky to find. She found it eventually, took ages though and we only heard it very very briefly.

I don't think it's something to change midwife over, especially since you have a doppler yourself.
