ARGH i just can't win with my body, right some background since i have been pregnant i have had my wee checked at every midwife and doc app like a normal preggy woman does anyway i have had it showing sugar one time then anotehr time at the docs i was told i was dehydrated by my wee sample  bearing in mind i drink LOADS all the time, then i was told at my 23 weeks cardiac scan by my consultant that i should stop eating for 2 and in nice words i'm overweight, so i cut down on the chcolate i was eating lol but still eat the same sort of things and the same ammount so i go to the midwife today and all is fine EXCEPT now my wee is showing keytones, the midwife explained that my body (and bump) is living off my fat reserves and that i need to eat more!!! now a hour before this app i had a big bag of doritos and a pot noodle plus some chcolate oh and for breckky i had crumpets it's not like i was starving myself :? so aparently i need to start eating little and often wtf is gonig on i am not starving myself quite the contary   it's not like i am not eating and i'm not over eating ARGH it's winding me up i just can't f**king win   :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:

Edited to add: by overweight i mean borderline overweight, i was a size 14 pre preg

i had ketones and glucose in my urine at my 25 week midwife appointment too, was told i am dehydrated too and to drink and eat when i got in!

HI

are u eating a balanced diet, the way they say living off fat i would think maybe they mean more meat and fatty things.
drink water at room temp the body absorbs it better.
Not sure wot else i can say, as long as your eating and drinking fine dnt worry bout anything else.
I think m/w and docs can be too harsh sometimes.

Hiya..

I am still in Tri1 but thought as I am overweight would add to the thread.

I think being overweight is really hard generally, and frustrating and all those type of things. It does feel like you are being judged and it can be annoying when you are otherwise very healthy (for example my blood pressure was excellent wish they'd mentioned that) But I did worry about what you eat when i read the doritos and crumpets lol (You make me want to eat them) My doctor offered to send me to a dietician to help me sort out my diet (I personally refused because I excersise regularly and my diet is actually very good) I am trying to treat the baby as my extra conscious - i.e would I feed my baby that happily when it is out of my tummy, if it's a no then I wouldn't feed it to me now. This has meant I am being more careful with what I eat, with a bowl of cereal for breakfast, fruit corner yoghurt for lunch with a lovely cheese sandwich, and then dinner what I fancy from veggie spag bolognaise to roasted vegetables etc. I also eat yoghurt covered fruit during the day to get rid of smelly morning sickness. Maybe if you are getting confusing information about what to eat a dietician could help with a nutritious meal plan

no by living off fat she means my body fat, i eat a balanced diet well as balanced as i can lol i eat alot of vegies, pasta, fruit, meat and all that malarky, i do like my cold drinks so maybe i should drink water at room temp (eww water tastes so nice cold lol)

Eddited to add: i achaly eat loads of JUNK in both my pregnancies with james and emma literly chcolate, burgers bla bla and i had NO problem with my wee like i am now and i'm eating ratehr healthy this time :wall: :wall: it's weird isn't it

When you do a very low carb diet like the Atkins you go into ketosis which means your body uses up your fat stores, but it sounds like you like your carbs Anna, but maybe try avoiding empty carbs (doritos, pot noodle are nutrient deficient although probably what you crave!) and go for more good carb snacks - it's not really the calories as such that puts you into ketosis but the fat/carb balance, I'm suspecting yours is not balanced. You can buy keto sticks on the internet to check your sugar and ketones at home. :) (and you get to POAS!! :cheer: )

I've been worried about my weight but my doctor says this is the one time to not worry - I'm worrying more now I'm pregnant than I ever did before! But i think your doctor has been a bit cheeky as you certainly do not look fat!

aww thanks hun, my mum said to ignore it and carry on what i'm doing she knows i'm eating the right stuff but yes your right about the dorito;s i'm rather parcial to them atm especialy the spicy ones   however that pot noodle was the first one i've had for YEARS lol seriously i don't normaly like pot noodles but fancied one so went shop to get one   i'll have to try to eat little and often i guess

Thats the problem with pregnancy u tend to eat wot u crave.
with my daughter all i was eating was toast and chip butties, she turned out fine.

Well it turns out i was dehydrated NOT starving myself   which i do find rather odd as i often drink loads and i'm sure i drank alot that morning, my mum is a midwife (well isn't practising as one atm) and she had a look at my notes and said that she would of slapped the woman for saying that and to carry on as i am but try to drink loads more :cheer: at least i feel much better now cas i don't want to over eat or under eat, mum said i'm doing the right thing but to keep off the dorito's as much as i have been (my craving atm  )

there we are, you dont have to worry bout your eating. It must be great to have a mum that was a midwife.
