Which I don't mind. I'm not opposed to co-sleeping, I actually quite like it but I have 2 problems.

1. Tonight, for example, DH was out at the pub. That means Henry can't sleep inbetween us where I feel safer because
2. I don't want him to fall off the bed.

I can't afford a co sleeper crib but I don't feel comfortable havin Henry on the outside without somethin to stop him fallin. Inbetween us is difficult cos DH smokes & drinks at least once a week so it's not safe for him there

Any suggestions? He used to sleep through but hadn't in about 2/3 weeks. I don't mind gettin up to do a night feed, it's just the gettin him back off to sleep in his crib. We won't settle on his tummy or back in his crib or cot. I'm ending up bring awake for hours on end tryin to get the little sod back to sleep.

When he first goes down for the night the will go straight down on his tummy in his crib, but once he has woken he won't.

Any suggestions as to how I can safely co sleep?

I might be totally wrong, but I thought on the outside was safer than in between. I tuck G in the crook of my arm on the outside, and DH (if he's still in bed) and I move right over to the other side of the bed. So she has nearly half the bed to herself.

Failing that, what about one of the rails that you get for attaching to a bed so toddlers don't fall out?? Xxx

On my iPhone - so cant see tickers :(

This is exactly what I used to do! She'd settle in my arm and could feed at night when she wanted to. When she was very little I'd make sure her head was level with my own because I wouldn't pull the covers over my own head when sleeping.

A bed guard is a good idea, although our bed is only an inch off the ground so we never needed one x

When I've out Harry to the outside when he's come into bed with us I've just pulled his crib over so it's right up against the edge so he can't fall out x

Putting him on outside is safer than the middle hun, at the age he is, he's probably not going to roll anywhere. I either had my arm around C, like the girls said above or when that got uncomfortable, I moved right over so he had half a bed on his own (oh moved into spare room for a whole). I knew I didn't move in my sleep but I didn't trust oh not to roll over.

I also tucked the duvet under me so there was no way it could go over C.

Have you tried a piece of your clothing in his crib with him? The smell of you on it might help him settle to sleep?

If you are really concerned have a pillow or something tucked down the side pf the bed or behind him so he can't move xx

Can't move his crib next to me as there is no room in our bedroom for that :(

Will try using my dressing gown as his blanket tonight. they r about the same thickness. If not, I'll try the bed guard idea-thanks lorna :)

Have you got any gro bags? They're the best thing ever.

You can get different togs depending on how warm/cold it is and it keeps them covered, as C always wiggled out of his blanket. You can pick them up at a good price on ebay.

This works really well with Stanley! I put the top I wore that day under him when he slept! He snuggled into it bless him, might well be worth a try xx

It's so cute seeing them cuddle into it, isn't it :)

Sassy I've got grobags but they don't seem to make a difference on him resettling. He doesn't wriggle out of his blanket so he's fine there. Will try the top tonight :)

I have been bed sharing for a while and here are tips i can offer - i kept him in the crook of my arm on the outside. Get rid of your pillows and plonk them on the floor.
I used his own blanket not our duvet so he doesnt overheat.
I have tried rolling a towel and putting it around lo in his cot so he is in a cocoon (didnt help us but worth trying -they do it in hospitals)

Whenever my husband had a drink, he wasnt allowed in our bed. But he doesnt smoke so no probs there.
I dont think its recommended to bed share if you smoke.

We coslept with Oscar until he was 12 months and then when I stopped breastfeeding he moved into his own cot with no problems.

We are now cosleeping with Lula, although we have a crib and she will sleep in there for long periods, but mostly she is in with us.

When it's just me and her, the same as with Oscar, I would just put a pillow between LO and the edge of the bed, mostly it was for peace of mind because both LOs gravitate towards me... well towards the booby juice lol
