Hi all, I am after help and advice on how to get rid of the dummy. Ellie only started having a dummy about 6months ago, when she was sucking her thumb so much she got it infected and it turned really nasty. I had to get her to stop sucking it - which she did keep doing even though it was hurting her! So I let her have a dummy. She is unbelievably attached to it. We are trying to not let her have it during the day - saying it is only for sleep or naps but even that isn't working very well.

Any advice and tips would be really appreciated.

I think you are going about it the right way saying it is only for sleep. Be consistent with this. If you sometimes give in and let her have it during awake time that will give her mixed messages. Good luck!

I would stick with only allowing it during the day to begin with and as Kalia says be consistent, then maybe the dummy fairy or something similar?

Someone else on here said that they told their LO that dummies were for babies and that if they could sleep without one they could go to the shop and choose a big girl present the next day. They then binned all the dummies.

Or, the one they use on that tiny tearaway prog, where they tie the dummies on a tree for the dummy fairy to take to new babies, then the dummy fairly leaves them a present for giving their dummies away.

We are planning to do this, once Ella is a bit older and we want to get rid of them.

(the birdies took mine and apparantly I stood at the window asking them to please bring it back! :rotfl: )
