Head engaged

Hello all, when I went to my ante natal appointment 2 weeks ago,my little ones head was 3/5 engaged.Now when I went last week he was still 3/5 engaged,so within two weeks he hasn't shifted!

This is my first baby,and I was just curious as to how long it took for your babys head to become fully engaged.
I only have 8 days left,and I am wondering how long it may take for him to move further down,I don't know if I should be concerned or not!

Hi Bagpuss,

Don't worry at all about it. Every baby is different & the heads engage at different times.
My LO's head engaged (4/5ths) at about 34 weeks then at about 38 weeks he was fully engaged but then came back out, went back in, came back out. He was being a naughty little boy

My midwife said, some babies get into a positon, think 'Hey i'm comfy here' and don't move until labour starts. There's nothing wrong so don't fret!

my first babies head was engaged for 7 weeks befroe she was born. The little love came out looking like a cone head!

Well I asked my MW today whether his head was engaged and she told me he was in the posterior position which is back to back and that he wont become engaged until I am in labor!!!
She also added that it is the most painful position he could be in!!!

So i'm in for a rough time!!! let's hope it's goes smoothly

Posterior position is very uncomfortable angiemum my second was in this possition when I was in labor, the main problem was the back ache.

and posterior babies have to turn round before being born so labor is often longer, sorry don't want to scare you.

saying that I was only in labor 4 hours with my second.

as for the head engaging some babies don't fully engage until you are about to go into labor.

Suz, did you have any pain relief with your births ???

My MW seems to think I'll be fine, but i saw a friend who is also a MW and she said just let them give you an epidural. I don't want an epidural i want as naural birth as poss

now I'm worrying!

I had Mophine with baby number 2,
I wanted to have as natural birth as I could to but I was in that much pain the midwife TOLD me that I was having painrelief, although quite alot of my pain was due to the fact that my waters hadn't broken and were putting alot of pressure on my back, so it wasn't just because of his possition.

I always say see how you go and do what feels right for you, I never want an epidural either.

Abi was posterior, they didn't discover it until i couldn't push her out and they went to use forceps i had gas and air and a shot of pethidine, i can't remeber any back pain but horrendous tummy cramps

Braydon wasnt engaged at 39 +6 lol but at 40 +5 he was here
