Having more than 2 children is "irresponsible"

I thought more people immegrate from the uk every year than enter it?

ZS -TBH everyone is entitled to their opinion...and calling someone else's opinion "ill thought out", or commenting on their own heritage isnt really fair, as you cant possibly know how well thought through their comment is, you are, however, perfectly entitled to be offended if it offends you.

Minxy - totally agree with you, but at the end of the day i do fear for the quality of some nursing/medical issues when there are real language difficulties, i've experianced it. But thats more to do a chronic need in the NHS.

I'm proud to live in a country that opens its doors and arms to people in need and those who are willing to work. Shame the media only portrays scroungers etc and attaches a stigma to immigrants, the majority of which that i know/haved worked with are completely the opposite!

Anyway back to the orginal post, people should only have the amount of children they can afford both mentally and financially.

Unless China and the USA sort themselves out, the environment's going to be fucked anyway.

.

Sparky, did you read the previous posts? It was a fairly ill thought out statement: Xena was not giving credit to the fact that the children of immigrants (many of whom will,in many cases, stay on to become British nationals) will actually be a vital asset to the economy, also they will help even the load that the aging population will bring. Whatever one thinks of migrants, at the end of the day, in 20 years time they and their children will be paying your pension.

So considering that migrants actually add more to the population than they take away, and considering that they are a population asset, in a country which until recently suffered from falling birth rates- well, yes, that is an ill thought out statement.

As for the comment on her heritage, she mentioned it first. I don't believe I said anything that could be construed as negative, merely used it as a point of reference.

tried to re-read but with all the forum weirdness..and xena unfortunately deleting her posts, which is upsetting to see, i cant go back and re-comment.

I just think that preaching tollerance should include tollerance of everyone's differences and opinions, immigration is'nt an issue merely for the UK and will always cause a heated debate. You cannot expect people who's lives have been affected by the migrant worker influx not to feel strongly, my life hasnt, but if i lost my job, my daughter was taught at a school where english was not the first language etc...my feelings might be different.

I suppose i'm trying to say without the benefit of experiance, none of us can tell how someone else might feel, we can only shape our own views through life's experiance and the positive and negative actions forced upon us.

Generalisation is something everyone does, its part of our human makeup.

You might feel really strongly about lots of things now, but when you get older you tend to concentrate on the things that effect you more directly, as you dont have as much energy for everything else!

Dont get me wrong i appluad you, and wish more girls your age had as much passion about the world around them...but you need to respect the opinion of others, by the time you'll be ,my age and have bitten your lip a billion times it comes as second nature.

How stupid to make the immigrant comment in the first place but then not to even back yourself up and then to go on and delete you posts...thats pathetic and also a complete 2 fingers up at everyone who took the time and effort to post on YOUR thread.

Shown your true colours there xena.

Sorry mods.

 I'm lovely and relaxed today :D

Just annoyed that me and other people wasted their time on this thread. On some forums the edit function is limited so you can't do exactly what xena has done here. Not fair is it

Oh well, I'm over it! :)

Nobody could be forced to abort a 3rd/4th/5th child- we don't live in China and TBH it's silly to make that comparion becaause Britain is very unlikely to end up dictating how many children you can/can't have. ;) They can't even make vaccinations compulsory.

ETA: another of my posts is completely irrelevant now... there was a post above asking what I would prefer between forced abortions and kicking immigrants out!

Sparky, I agree with tolerance for other people's opinions but if an opinion is based on false facts, Daily Mail headlines and other popular media stereotypes then I feel that it should be challenged and the true facts made clear. I think it is also a tad patronising to say it is because she is young that she is passionate. I am nearly twice her age and am still passionate about a lot of things and will also challenge opinions I disagree with too.

Sparky, I find that slightly patronising. Firstly you seem to forget that I already have an 18 month daughter to care for,as well as this I am working towards A levels, and trying to forge the best life possible for my family. I'm not some teenager sitting on my ass spouting off. I have problems to deal with usually associated with people twice my age. The day i no longer have energy to stick up for the underdog, and to challenge what I think is unfair and wrong is the day I give up.

In no way did I disrespect anybody's opinions.Xena has been very disrespectful by deleting her posts but I don't see you pulling her up.

Tolerance of other's opinions is not appeasement. When I make a critique I try to make it as measure and balanced as possible.I do not make sweeiping generalisations neither am I rude.

My political and social stance is nothing to do with age or experience. It is to do with knowledge, and the ability to present a logical and rationalised view of things.

I find it insulting that you think I am opinionated merely out of immaturity. I know you don't mean anything personally by it,but still.

Nice one urchin for replacing the topic in the first post! :D

just having a read through and would like to applaud kittykins for her reply on page one.

I found in incredibly informative and well written (in no way am i implying that everyone elses was utter tosh badly written though!) and i found myself wishing her post wouldn't end, so thank you for that.
I really feel that i have learnt something reading this thread, and surely that's the point of it?

 to everyone (aside from some of the usual hot headedness that can pop up in contentious threads) i'm massively enjoying it.

yes i have to agree that was a great post kittykins - i really didnt know that

xena - you could just have not posted instead of deleting everything. it makes it so hard to continue the discussion now...

i am like you lou - i so love these debates. i just wish i was more 'intellectual' to be able to construct a proper reply that a lot of you can. ZS, kittykins etc,

fantastic thread!

oh and a note on the immigration thing. if immigrants were not allowed, wouldn't we all be white british, and then think what the racism would be like then!

I know what you mean star about the intellectual thing

The post kitty made went straight over my head!
