Should get rid of some flipping immigrants if there's too many people in this country

Who are you applauding? The GP who presicribes your antibiotics? Or the midwives who helped deliver your baby? Or the cleaner who sweeps the streets you walk on? Maybe the chef who cooked your dinner at a restaurant last week.

Let's get rid of the old people as well while we're at it.

Do you think I should just leave the country or also this forum?

Yep, and I should leave Switzerland and bring my THREE kids back to the UK to drain resources there too.

This sort of utter ignorance with regard to immigrants makes me so mad

that was a really stupid thing to say :?

Interesting Article on Migrant Workers

Surely if you could move to a country where your job prospects and life are improved you would do it? We all congratulated Melanie on Richards new job- they will be a migrant family where they move. :?

The equality watchdog said stay-at-home mothers will be among those most resentful of immigrants as recession bites.

He said as they sought to return to the workplace to balance the family finances, they could find themselves 'rejected for job after job' in favour of clever, young migrants.

He gave it as one of the situations in which disadvantaged white people may require special help.

'I think we need to look out for the wife or partner with a young child, whose husband may have lost his job, or who fears that he will; or who finds that the bills just don't add up unless she goes back to work', Mr Phillips said.

'When she applies for work, is rejected for job after job in a slack labour market yet sees a clever young Latvian or Lithuanian with two degrees and three languages doing the job she'd like to do, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out how she'll feel.

'And add to that the picture of her child's nursery class, with, as she will see it, an overworked teacher confronted with a class of 30 that speaks 15 languages at home, who will she resent for not having the life she thinks she deserves?'

In regards to this bit: As a SAHM I completely disagree. If I was shortlisted for interview and lost out to a young lativan with two degrees and three languages I would understand. Why for the same wages would they employ a young mum who only has GCSEs and speaks 1 language? :?

As for the nursery thing- I would be delighted if Evie was exposed to all those different cultures from a young age. I was taught about other cultures- she has the oppurtunity to witness them first hand.

Immigrants aren't the problem in this country it's the chavs that sit on their arse at home and think the world owes them a living that are.

what the hell is going on with this thread? Why are duplicate of my posts appearing on pages 2 and 3?

Hmm the same reason some of the posts have gone walkies too I think... the forum went down earlier and had a weird error message.

I will text LauraB and tell her.

I don't think its our population thats the concern, Britain has an aging population so we need more youngsters - I thinbk its more a world wide issue. I don't think you can just say more then 2 childreN irresponsible, there are so many different factors. I know a few one child families that use disposable nappies, formula feed, have 2 cars, hardly recycle, buy clothes that are cheap so they just throw them out and buy more etc etc compared to a family with four boys who use cloth, she has breastfed all her children, buys all local produce, has no car, reuses clothes, recycles everything etc tc

Exactly, I know people with very big families,4+, and their impact on the earth is tiny compared to others with one or two kids who consume enough for 8 people.

You can tread lightly on the earth with 1 child or 6. What is irresponsible is wanton consumerism, chucking things out that could be recycled, etc etc.

As for the population crap - OK looks like my ENTIRE A level geography course is utterly wrong then, because all we've had slammed down out throats this past two years is "Britain has an aging population! Future economic strain! Blah blah blah!"

Well said Minxy.

Xena, I'm sorry, but that was a really ignorant comment. As an immigrant yourself (that's what you said, right?) i'm suprised at you. Of course I doubt you came over here to slit chicken's throats and spray slurry on the fields, like the majority of immigrants. Or die picking cockles. All immigrants are equal, but some are more equal than others, then.

I think we need to end the debate about immigration, its getting way to heated and move back to the original topic of the potential environmental impact of having more than two children.

Not really. If someone makes an ill thought out and offensive remark,in any context,it is perfectly fair to criticise

I would agree (and here i go back to the immigration thing, the irony), i jsut find generalisations about immigration offensive. I think there are a lot of different views on immigration here and debating it will not change anyone's opinion but can cause some bad feelings afterwards.

If people get the back up from debating what is essentially a political/humanitarian point, then they don't have to reply to the post :D I personally won't sit back and keep my mouth shut if someone comes out with that sort of thing, and I'd hope that if I posted something of the sort, that I'd be challenged on it too.
