It's a long story but basically LO started off at the top of the growth charts and at nearly 4 months is now at the bottom. She is currently getting various blood tests to check for health problems but it seems to be allergy related. In the begging fourmula top ups were heavily pushed but I refused because I knew she was getting enough milk ( I even weighed before and after feeds to be sure). Now that it seems to be allergy related I'm being told to avoid fourmula at all costs! Anyway it was suggested that I could start solids at 4 months to help weight gain but I have doupts about this. Has anyone done it and what results did you get?

Sorry no experience but have you tried cutting out dairy yourself? Xxx

Yes, I've not eaten dairy, soy, eggs or any of the other likely foods for a couple of months now. I went on a pretty drastic ellimination diet which did seem to help a lot with her digestive issues but her weight gain is still slow. At least she is gaining, because there was a breif period before the diet that she was loosing which was a bit scary. I suspect there may still be something in my diet that is bothering her but working it out is a long progress.

Could it be gluten? From what I've read about it a sign in children is not putting on weight I think x

I just recently started eating gluten again, I was also gluten free for quite a few weeks. I don't think adding it back has made a difference.

Hope someone has some advice good luck x

I'm not sure about early weaning but I know since I weaned onto solids (at 23 weeks) I have continued breastfeeding and he has climbed a centile a month.....he eats loads and loves his food. And i know the solids are the only thing that has caused this weight gain as he is more mobile now too!

Prior to weaning onto solids he was slowly dropping from 50th to 25th centile.

He is 8 months now and still breastfeeding 6 -8 x a day too!

Hi there, I had to start my lo on solids at 4 month due to poor weight gain/loss of weight. It Defently worked for us! X

Can I ask, do you know the cause of the poor weight gain? And how long did it go an for and low did it get?

The reason I'm skeptical about it working for us is that she obviously has issues with her digestion and I'm not sure that adding solids wouldn't just be more work to digest.
