This is going to sound so pathetic.

I said to my mate earlier that I was going to pack my travel hairdryer into the hospital bag but she started laughing and said that she didn't think the other mums on the ward would appreciate me waking their baby's up  .

It is honestly not a vanity thing, I hate having wet hair. It's so thick and I blow dry it everyday as it gets itchy if I leave it wet and takes about 5 hours to dry on it's own. I don't want to be lying in a hospital bed with wet hair all day :( .

I don't want to not wash it and feel all yucky while I'm there.

God, I just read that back to myself. Of all the things to worry about  .

It really isn't vanity, honestly. I'm usually a scruff bag and live in wellies and jeans and go hiking!

Hehe - I can understand totally. My hair and me have come to an arrangement now and I manage to dry it naturally if I have to but when it was short I used to want to die if I didn't have access to a hairdryer! As it is I'll be taking makeup into hospital and people keep laughing at me for that! So I say sod em and take your hairdryer and even your straighteners too if you feel like it - after all, those first pics with LO are gonna be around forever! xx

OH GOD, I didn't even think about the photos!!!!!!!!!!!!

I won't be taking make up as I don't wear it.

Hospitals provide them usually. Check and see. I asked and they said they had them for general use and not to bring one if I came in.

The reason they provide them is the dreaded H&S. Electrical item and all that.

Take whatever you like hun, don't listen to other people. You need to be comfortable whilst your in hospital

i hate to be the bearer of bad news hun, but i work in a hospital and nothing i mean NOTHING can be used unless it has passed an electrical test (to ensure it doesn't cause any interferance the hospital equiptment) and this is not a quick process.... we wanted Xmas lights up in our unit and it took 6weeks for them to test and get back to us!
you might be able to snuggle them in your bag and use them of you have your own room???(then noone would know) ???? as for being on a ward, im almost 100% sure they would not allow you to use personal hairdryer.

i know how you feel, i wont go out unless my hair has been straightner!

I'm sure they have them in the bathrooms anyway. Won't be as good as your personal one though. I get the feeling that they won't let you plug them in though unless they have been PAT tested. You can get this done by an electrician or electrical outlet shop in readiness so that there won't be a delay when you get to hospital.

Strangely enough my mum is allowed to PAT test things :D .

Do you think they will accept a test done from someone outside the hospital??

I just assumed they wouldn't have anything like that on the ward but I'm sure I wouldn't be the first person to ask them  .

When i was in hospital, there wasn't hairdryers and no other mums used them either. :(
After two days though i got hubby to bring in my straighteners and sat behind my closed curtain :D

I know what you mean. Although my hair dries into lovely ringlets naturally it takes ages!! I don't want to be sitting up in bed trying not to get my pillow soaking wet either! :shakehead:
