Hi all,

For anyone who has had this, please could you tell me about how they administer the antibiotics? Is it constantly through the intravenus line or just a shot through it? I want to remain as mobile as possible during labour (tip from my sis who was tucked up in bed for her first baby- 36 hour labour and mobile for 2nd labour- 4 hours!!) and was hoping I won't be stuck on a drip the whole time!
Any info would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi Pam - I had this. They administer the antibiotics through a cannula in your hand once you're in active labour and do so every four hours or so until the birth. I don't think it affects your mobility at all but I can't say for sure as I gave in and had an epidural so was laid up in bed for a large part of my labour anyway xx

I was GBS positive and they gave me the antibiotics through a canula in my hand every 4 hours - it doesn't take long - the first dose was bigger and the second dose was really quick to administer... 1 min or so
I wanted to be mobile this labour as I was stuck on the bed with my first baby. I had a induction drip but could wheel it around.

One thing I did ask for was I didn't want the canula in my hand as I found it a right pain with DS1 - I wanted to be able to use my hand but couldn't. This time with DS2 they put in more in my wrist which was a bit better. :)

Thanks ladies- these are the things I always forget to ask MW at clinic!!!
