Hi all, just wondered if anyone else is going down the route of testing for group B streptococcus at all? I will be sending my swabs off tomorrow. I know there are a lot of us around the time to test (35-37 weeks). Worth finding out and easy to do me thinks

I have wondered about this. I still don't know what to do. I spoke to my midwife about it a while ago. They said if its located vaginally they don't treat it at all. If its located in your urine that's the only way they will treat it and it's not tested for as standard, also that you can test positive one day and negative the next. Yet I have read how dangerous it can be. I am completely confused about the whole thing now :eh:

No it's not offered by the NHS but is a v easy test to do and to find out before labour as if u have it it can affect baby but with I.v. Antibiotics during labour it really reduces risks of passing it onto your baby. I am doing through The Doctors lab call or email 0207307373 [email protected] to get the kit through the post, do swabs at home, send off in pre-paid package and result in 3 days...sounds simple enough to me xxx

nope I was never tested last time. So I have no idea did wonder though x

that's weird as it is normally carried and found in your vagina and rectum and approx 25% of healthy ladies do carry it. In the US they do test for it with every pregnancy between 35-37 weeks and treat if considered high risk (I.e. Baby comes before 37 weeks or there was uterus rupture before 37weeks etc) the test is £32 and I feel it would be better to know but then I am a geeky scientist :~)

Bumped this post so others can see it if needed since I've found out I'm +ve today :-(
