have just bought a tin of SMA White which will keep us going for a couple of weeks until Evie is 6 months. She can then have SMA Progress. Aside from it being a darn sight cheaper what are the pro's and con's of switching to follow on milk?

Pros: That you get it on offers and you can finally get Tesco clubcard/advantage card points on it

We're sticking with the SMA gold just now and will wait till our review in November about her reflux and see what they advise then.

Con - The added Iron in it can make them constipated for a bit. I tried changing Mhairi, but the constipation was terrible, and on the advice of my HV (who I ignored initially!) I kept her on stage one until about 2 weeks ago when we went onto full fat cows milk.

The HV said there was no need for follow on, as their extra iron requirement can be got from the food that they've started!

I'm not going to bother with follow on milk. Ja is still on C&G stage 2 (which is up to 12 months) and will be untill he turns 1 then it will be full fat cows milk :)

It may be a freaky coincidence but i think since starting follow on milk, Ted has slept WAY better!!!
Poo's are quite stodgy and green though!!! :puke:

Oh yes, it's interesting reading this thread - Lewis has been on follow on milk for about 4 days now, and the poo's are definitely further apart and "smaller" than before (and yes, definitely stodgy and green :rotfl: )

 to you :)

I got Sam the C&G follow on this week only because my local chemist had run out of the Hungry baby milk so I had no other choice. He is definitely pooing less and it has been greener :?

I asked my HV about this the other week and she did say there is no need to change to it and just keep him on the one he is on.

Like Anna though i would agree Sam has slept better since being on it - that's probably just a coincidence though

Ive just repled to kikis thread about this!

But i had to switch imogen back to hungry baby as the follow on gave her constipation and it made her very ill.

not sure what pros and cons are really but i think the follow-on's have more iron and are less filling as baby's diet should now be complemented with solids.

i first put millie on sma gold when she was 6 months old (i just thought that was the most popular one i was SO overwhelmed by all the different formulas!) but after one month i switched to hipp organic follow-on as its only £4.50! well it turned out to be the best one i tried!

DONT switch to the 10months+ milk i didnt like that (even tho it was hipp!) its frothy and "grows" so when u add the powder u have to mix it in gradually it wont all fit in the bottle! very annoying!
