I'm petrified of flying, hate planes!
i always think, if something goes wrong up there then that's it, your dead
(but then again i could get knocked over and killed tonight - so when your time's up, your time's up)
But I'm so scared of being up there and not being able to do anything , at least if you're on a boat you could swim!
My stepdad even lost his son and grandson in a plane crash in 2004 but I was even the same before that.

I know im missing out on loads of sunny holidays abroad, and my mums pursuaded me to go to spain next year and take my friend along - but how can I calm down about it!? I'm really nervous and it's still 12 months off! :wall: :wall:

ooh i love flying- its so fun!
i have a friend whos terrified too..she went to cyprus and i told her to
take some sleeping tablets before getting on the plane- she said it worked a treat and she used a homeopathic calming spray that goes on your tongue the next time when she had a shorter flight!

Hi Kimbo well i used to work in a chemist and people used to recommend this Bach Rescue Remedy it is a little blottle of drops that u take prior to flying exams etc it has a calming effect, i would really say try it as the world is a big place u are missing out on c'ing some off it and Spain is only a few hrs on the plane so its a good start i wish u all the very best.
Here is what is says about it u can google it and check it out there or go to the chemist and ask the pharmacist about it they will be happy to give you any advice about it.
Bach Rescue Remedy is an original flower remedy discovered by Dr Bach in the 1930s. Helps you cope in balancing lifes ups and down. Assists the return to a more positive outlook when you need comfort and reassurance. Provides support at times of emotional demand, such as before a driving test, interview, exam or flight or when you simply need a little help. Suitable for all the family.

I'm not the best to advise you as I have refused to fly for 9 years now cos of my fear.. good luck though, your brave to even book up a holiday. I know what you mean about missing out though, i'm trying to sort out my fear cos I wanna take Jack on nice holidays. We are going on a cruise this year so it's ok but can't afford that every yr :(

Why not try Hypnosis, you would only need one session I would have thought!

thanks for your replies - i dont think they'd really help though cos being calm wont stop me from thinking were gonna go down!!
hmmm i need statistics me thinks lol
or to actually go to the airport and watch planes taking off/landing for a full day to prove to myself that people are doing it 24 hours a day and that not every plane goes down!!

a large shot of some strong spirit just before you board might help

will they let me on the plane pissed? lol

I don't like it either, but just can't refuse to get on a plane.
In fact, an hour ago I booked our flights to go to South Africa to visit the in-laws in January. I can't refuse to go, OH could never take the kids alone and it wouldn't be fair for us never to visit his home country or his family.

I know what you mean, I worry about it too.

totally the same hun i always refused to fly but then mum and dad booked a holiday and it just looked so good, freaked out about the plane tho, and u should have seen me in the morning we went to stansted i was a wreck but it really was not that bad and i could do it again :d u will be fine
will u be taking leah with u bray took my mind of it brilliantly

There is some fact about having to fly for 8 hours a day for 1000s of years before being involved (not killed) in a crash.

I don't worry about flying and I've SEEN a plane crash (a little one). I must admit that I always get a little nervous on take off though.

You're much more likely to get splattered by a bus crossing the road :D .

Kim get in touch with manchester Airport...they do special courses for people scared of flying. Not sure how much it is but I know a few people who've done it and it worked for them

You can also try EFT (emotional freedom technique) which involves tapping on key areas of your body with your fingers... I've seen this work on TV but don't know anyone who's tried it
