Hi

As many of you may know i am vegi and dont have a clue what to do with meat and fish.......

Well I have tried Ellis on fish fingers and he seems to only like them if i take the bread crumbs off......

What fish can i but for him that i dont have to muck about with much.... like boil in a bag??!!! or something.

You could make him cod and broccoli supper.... you cut the cod up in to bits then boil it in some milk then cook the broccoli then make a white sauce then add it all together Keeley loves it :D

thanks hun i'll try that xxxx

you could try just steaming or poaching some cod fillet? My ds loves fish but we don't eat it either.

I know this this really dim but what is white sauce? Non us like fish but Aimee and I would like to try Nathan on some but i really don't know what to put with it of how to cook it.

White sauce is the basic sauce. You melt some butter in a pan then stir flour in till it's all stuck together and then add milk and whisk til it the thickness you want, keeping it on the heat. Then you can change into cheese sauce by adding cheese, parsley to make parsley sauce etc etc
hth
:)

Lydia loves boil in the bag fish (usually butter or cheese sauce) mixed into mashed potato with carrots and cauliflower.

She also really likes spaghetti mixed with tinned mackerel (the kind in tomato sauce) with grated cheddar cheese mixed into it.

Hi

Tesco's sell frozen wild pacific salmon fillets in their healthy living range and all you do is remove the packaging and pop them on a baking tray in the oven for 20 minutes and they are lovely with new potatoes and veg or salad. Because they are frozen we always have a box or two in the freezer. They have no coating on and no added ingredients, they are just fillets so you don't have to mess with them.

Lou :D

They also sell fresh salmon fillets which can cook in the microwave in the container you buy then in. I bought these yesterday for all of us. I just broke the fish up with a fork for Ellie, and put them on her tray with some fresh veg. She seemed to really enjoy it. I then broke up chunks of the cooked fish and froze them down in a freezer bag to take out another day.

I would recommend buying skinless and boneless salmon fillets. You can either wrap them in tinfoil with a bit of butter and oven bake for about 20-30 mins or you can put them on a microwave plate with a knob of butter(optional), cover leaving an air vent and microwave for about 3 mins. I would go through it first to check for any bones but there shouldn't be many if any and it is so yummy.

THIS IS A BIT MORE COMPLICATED BUT YOU COULD GIVE IT A GO. I HAVE BOUGHT THE ANNABEL KARMEL MINI CERAMIC RAMEKIN DISHES SO THAT I CAN MAKE JAKE MINI SIZED COTTAGE PIES AND FISH PIES ETC. THIS RECIPE IS ENOUGH TO MAKE THREE MINI PIES SO YOU CAN FREEZE THEM AND THEN YOU WON'T HAVE TO COOK EVERY NIGHT.

Annabel’s Mini Fish Pie
Recipe from: Superfoods For Babies & Children
Measurements: Metric/Imperial (swap region above for cup measurements)

If you want your child to grow up liking fish then you should try this super delicious mini fish pie, which is simple to prepare. Salmon provides a good source of essential fatty acids. If you make these in ramekin dishes they will be just the right size for your child to enjoy without feeling there is too much on the plate. It is a good idea to keep a stock of these mini fish pies in the freezer for days when you don’t want to cook.

You can buy mini ramakins in my ‘Make Your Own’ range at Boots or online at: www.boots.com

Ingredients
375 g potatoes, peeled and diced
1 1/2 tbsp milk
40g butter
a little salt and pepper (for babies over one)
15 g (1/2 oz) butter
25 g (1 oz) onion, peeled and finely chopped
1 tbsp flour
125 g (4 1/2 oz) cod fillet, skinned and cubed
125 g (4 1/2 oz) salmon fillet, skinned and cubed
1 tsp chopped fresh parsley
1 bay leaf
75 ml milk
50 ml vegetable stock
25g frozen peas
50 g (2 oz) Cheddar cheese, grated
1 lightly beaten egg

Decoration
Cherry tomatoes
Chives
Red pepper
Basil leaves
Cooked green beans
Rosemary

Method:
Preheat the oven to 180C/350F. Bring a pan of lightly salted water to the boil, add the potatoes, reduce the heat and cook for 15 to 20 minutes or until tender. Drain the potatoes and mash together with the milk and half butter until smooth and season to taste for babies over one.

Melt the remaining butter in a saucepan, add the onion and sauté until softened. Add the flour and cook for 30 seconds, stirring. Gradually stir in the milk and then the stock. Bring to the boil and cook for one minute. Add the fish with the parsley and bay leaf. Simmer for about 3 minutes and then stir in the peas and cook for one minute. Remove the bay leaf and stir in the cheese until melted. Season with a little salt and pepper

Divide the fish between 3 ramekin dishes and top with the mashed potato. Brush with the lightly beaten egg. Heat through in an oven preheated to 180C for about 15 minutes and finish off for a few minutes under a preheated grill until golden.

Information:
Suitable for freezing
Suitable for babies from 10 months
MAKES 3 PORTIONS

You could give Ellis tinned tuna either with pasta, in a sandwich or on a baked potato (tuna in spring water is best as tuna in brine or sunflower oil contains added salt)

Tinned sardines or pilchards with toast(mash the soft bones in and feed them to Ellis as they are high in Calcium, Iron and Omega 3)

Fish wise Brody likes grilled salmon with cous cous and roasted veggies, fish fingers, tuna pasta bake, tuna sandwiches etc.

I thought I could move this, as the sections are now for babies and toddlers :D
