I havent done a course or anything! I keep saying I will but never do! Though I do read up on things alot so I know what to do if I need to! I wont flap! My body takes over! Joes a flapper! I will have to slap him and get on with it haha Just hope i never have to do any first aid though!!

I was a first aider at work and have kept up the yearly assesments since I left as I think it is so handy to know.

I've did first aid every year for last 10 years so I should be ok at it but if it came down to an emergency then I'm not sure how would react really

I used to work for the Ambulance Service answering the 999 calls...so had to be calm to give out instructions..cpr etc over the phone and am pretty clued up with stuff on what to do in certain emergency situations.

However, If it was a personal emergency ie. Fynn or hubby... I think id just break down and have a mental block! :?

As a diving instructor you have to be shit hot at first aid, even learning how to do rescue breaths to a diver on the waters surface at the same time as calling for help and removing all of their equipment!
I usually keep pretty up to date, I did a children's first aid course through work last year, which is very important I think if you have kids, especially CPR etc

I have dealt with quite a few accidents and emergencies, especially while I was living in Thailand as a diving instructor, we had several broken bones and even a lady who fell off the boat and left one of her fingers behind :puke: Today I went to a boot sale and a guy had collapsed, he was having an epileptic fit, everything was pretty under control but they had raised his head onto a bin bag full of clothes like a cushion and I told them it was best he lie flat cos it would restrict his airway, I got my umbrella for shade as he was lying in full sun and sweating loads, they called an ambulance and he was OK :)

I like to think I'm pretty level headed and would keep calm in an emergency but until it happens you just don't know.

I really need to do a first aid course. My last one was with St John's ambulance when I was 13, and I'm sure none of my knowledge is up to date - and certainly isn't baby-related.

I'm generally good in first-aid situations, but if anything happened to Sprog, I realistically probably wouldn't cope well. I panic if he sneezes more than twice!

Im a trained first aider for work. Think i would be ok in an emergency, not sure about what i would be like if it was my Calleigh or OH. But i would like to think that i could do it if ever needed.

I'm a nurse and I work in intensive care, so I'm pretty good with emergency stuff. I like to think I'd keep a cool head out of work if I witnessed something but having never been in that sort of situation who knows. But if it's my own child I do panic. Thankfully nothing really serious has ever happened to him and I hope it never will.

Same as Urchin i used to be a diving and watersports instructor and have done a few first aid courses,
we also had loads of different accidents to deal with..from broken noses to jellyfish stings, the most common one was stubbed toes on rocks and urchins spines in feet etc..so nothing too bad!! we had a man who had to be given mouth to mouth once but it wasn't me who administered it!! If Hayden had an accident as long as it wasn't horrifically bad i think i'd be ok to deal with.. its harder when its your own child or someone you know because your more stressed etc!!
Everything he does worries me..he's always banging his head or something!! lol

I'm a first-aider and I've just completed my refresher course. I think I'd be calm in an emergency. I've never been in that situation really though...other than minor incidents

I used to be in St John Ambulance. I often went on sports duties like rugby 7's so got to help out with all sorts of things like dislocations, concussions, cuts, sprains, etc, and our uni summer balls with plenty of people passed out drunk or stoned. I also went on a Medical Gases course which was interesting.

Ooooo interesting.....

I did a course a couple years ago, ermmmm most of it I think would come back to me if I needed it.

As for emergency's although I'm not into anything gorey I would just stay calm and probably close my eyes if it was really messy and call a ambulance haha! Im very calm but It would just be the look of it I wouldn't like.

I have done 1st aid at work a few times but my last one expired about a year ago....when we get pregnant I want to take OH on a 1st aid course that deals primarily with babies and children....just incase.

About 6 months ago a young girl came off her horse outside my house and I was first on scene, she was conscious but rambling and her back was swollen (turned out she damaged her kidneys in the fall and had concusion but she was ok) and I shit my pants I can tell you! Luckily within minutes a lady came rushing over who was her riding instructor and took charge, my contribution was fetching a blanket and hanging around incase I was needed. I really dont know if I would have remembered what to do :(

Yeah im a nurse

Hopefully if i ever needed to for my own family i would know what to do

interesting replies ...urchin being a diving instructor what do you do if someone gets that crazy pressure thing from coming up from under water too quick?

If its a serious one the only thing you can do is give oxygen and get them to a decompression chamber asap....and make sure they have insurance LOL as it costs $$$$$
That and keep their diving equipment intact as they will want to do a full investigation and see if they can sue someone's ass.
Minor ones can go away without treatment, or to be one the safe side, by returning to a depth of 5m which helps the body get rid of the excess nitrogen.

A guy died from another dive school while I was working in Thailand, he had had a heart attack under water though so it was no ones fault.

I have done a few times but many years ago now. I remember the recover position and ressuatation (I think  ) but should really refresh on it.

I bought a human body book the other day as my fascination and need for understanding has come back since being preggers! x

I'd flap! My head would just go to jelly and so would my legs.

I'm going on a baby first aid course in September hopefully! Just for peace of mind really.

I am first aider in school. loads of interesting things happen, and loads of stupid things as you can imagine with teenagers.
