When did you start giving them? on the packets of rice cakes and such it says 7+ months but my HV said 6 is fine.

Also any suggestions on what kind of things to give?

HV also told me i should be mashing things rather than puree at 6 months? is this true? all so confusing :oooo:

I give H rice cakes with cheese spread on sometimes. She has the organic carrot sticks (her fave) and biscottis. I tried her with fruit and veg and she won't even touch them!!!! She has a panic attack when I put them in her hand!!!

They do say to start on the lumpy stuff but, I personally don't think you can give it an age range! It doesn't make sense, if they say only to start weaning from 6 months, how can you move straight on to mashed and lumpy stuff iykwim? I weaned H at 4 months and moved her to mashed at 6 and a half months x

Thanks hun! i know it makes no sense at all, i think you have to just do your own thing as people tell you so many different things, ive only really given puree so far and think i will stick to them for a while. good idea adding the cheese spread, will try that one. he has some of the sweetcorn rings and loved them, i guess because they just melt in the mouth.

I give T roasted chips of root vegetables. I figured going by BLW principles there are not that many things off limits so by 6 months there shouldn't be a need to purée everything technically.

The Hv told me to give her soft foods a couple of weeks back so I have given her bits of banana and avocado and ripe mango as well

She gets a couple of those organix carrot sticks or tomato wheels with her dinner too.

I haven't given meat or anything yet, going to wait a few more weeks before I do that, plus I can't wait until she can have gluten so I can do pasta etc.

how many meals are you doing TOR? so far we are just breakfast and a bit of dinner, we have not done any meat yet either.

Ye i thought about BLW they can have most things, think i'm just going to go with the flow.

She gets a dessert spoonful of the cow and gate banana porridge for breakfast which amounts to maybe 7 little spoonfuls for her and then dinner. I got a bit freaked by the choking/gagging so I made a pan of sweet potato/carrot and swede and whizzed it up and froze it in 1oz pots so she gets that after her chips that shes had and fed herself. I'm on my last pot so I'm not going to bother anymore with that because she's stopped gagging in things now. so she'll get roasted veg until she's 6 months and then I'll start looking to give her more things like I eat myself I think.

Oh, she gets half a 1oz pot of apple and pear too or some other pieces of fruit as a little pudding.

I'm finding it tough being organised enough! Lol.

I'm going to do a batch of veg tonight in the oven and freeze it in zip lock bags.

ye its hard to find the time to prepare stuff, i have done carrot and sweet potato and put it in freezer. We have had pear, apple too i sometimes fix in porridge, he hated porridge for a while but is starting to take it now. think it will be much easier when i can just mash what we eat ourselves, maybe in a couple of weeks time.

ive cut chicken breasts into halfs for baby food portions lol so i can deforst her a bit of chicken, i just mash stuff now really as she dosent mind lumps. ive been giving rice cakes and stuff from about 5 months, id say u know your lo best and just to try and offer them a bit of things. alyssa likes to steal my mccoys when im eating crisps and theyre really hard but she loves gumming them down.

Harry's been having veg like carrot and broccoli. He seems to enjoy it but don't think too much goes in... Here's the evidence!!

I'm a lazy mummy and have never pureed! I just cook and fork mash then freeze in ice cube trays and then pop them out and defrost in the microwave when needed. Evie seems fine with the lumps and I introduced toast as finger food this week and again no problems. Looking forward to introducing meat and pasta and eggs in a couple of weeks!

G's had finger foods from start, the ages on packets are just for guidlines. DD has been eating them since 5ish months.

On my iPhone - so cant see tickers :(
