OK so today I've been getting steadily more snotty and tired and can feel a cold coming on. It's pretty inevitable SR will get it too but I've not yet prepared for this. How do they breathe when they feed if their noses are blocked and is there anything I should get in that can help him?

He might not get it. One of the many perks of breastfeeding as you will be giving him a lovely dose of antibodies with every feed :)
I don't think my first had a cold until he was quite a bit older but it just made him a bit fussy as he had to latch off to breathe. Didn't worry him too much though.
Get well soon x

Thank you. I do so hope he doesn't get it, he's so teeny still!

It's the worst!

I recently had a cold for 3 weeks and lo got it bad not from my milk but from me coughing or sneezing near him something you can't really avoid when feeding is it.

My advice is to...
Get the calpol room plug in and vapour pads plug in at night
Buy snuffle babe (baby Vicks) rub on chest and into feet at bedtime
Go to the doctors as first sign of sniffle - I didn't and it got really bad
You can buy a saline spray for noses to clear the mucous but I didn't find them that good the doc prescribed one which was drops and was better.
Also a nasal aspirator like a bulb to suck the snot out and clear their nose is a must.

My lo lost weight when he had a cold because his nose all stuffy and couldn't feed properly also he wa coughing so much after a feed he would be sick but he is fine now

Fingers crossed ur lo won't get it but if they do defo get all of the above and ul get through it also lemon honey and ginger for you as there is not much u can take so just try and get yourself better ASAP

Ginger can increase ur milk supply so don't have to much of it

Hope that helps :)

Thanks for that, it sounds horrible though, wish we could prevent them ever getting sick

I've heard saline nasal drops and nose suckers to remove snot help. Dreading it too though...

Breastmilk into his nose helps snuffles. He might not get it though, my youngest is coming up to 8 months and his older brother is at nursery and he only just got his first cold, still a lot milder than his brother. I think.i will be expressing for my eldest to drink ;)

I'm going to head to boots today to stock up just in case. He hasn't got it yet so fingers crossed

I am.not sure snufflebabe is suitable under 3 months?

Re snuffle babe -it is the doctor advised me to get it at his 8 week check up
Calpol not meant to be used under 3 month either but they also advise that for after vaccinations

I got saline spray and a snot sucker so I'm well prepared. He's still showing no sign of it and I'm starting to fell brighter already so we may have dodged the bullet this time (famous last words) but we're ready when it does happen...

The real way to help the baby is to make a vacuum over his nose with your mouth and suck the boogers out yourself. I find the nasal aspirators poo!

(I've never done this, I have too much of a week stomach!)
