I know I shouldn't be complaining, there has been some really sad news posted on here over the weekend and my heart really does go out to all the ladies who have to report such bad news.

I still haven't had my scan date and I'm 10weeks and 1 day today. I've spoken to my midwife twice and she just says, yes, yes dear, I'll sort it out and nothing happens. Because of where we live they do a combined scan and blood test to heck for Downs between 10 weeks and 2 days and 12 weeks and 3 days. If I miss my dates , the result may not be accurate and because I'm 36, I'm anxious about the result anyway.

Why do these health professionals not take new mom's anxieties in to account....I'm worried and I need a scan!!! Sorry this is long winded and boring...just needed a rant

Morning Timsmom, you poor thing you sound really fed up with the system and I dont blame you. I have recently found out that my hospital has just started offering the combined scan too which I will get when I have my scan next week I will be 12+5. Apparently you are still elegiable for the scan up to 13+6 after that is no good.

I was impatient and rang up the hospital direct last week as I had not heard from them about my date (I was 11 weeks by then), they told me they had a back log of appointments but they would all be in the post that afternoon, I asked nicely if they would mind checking the date as I needed to make sure I was in the correct time frame for the test. They then looked at the system and told me my date, and then I recieved the appointment letter in the post that afternoon.

I would recommend you ring them directly just to make sure you are on their radar and if you are not you need to explain that you must have your appointment in good time, I am sure they will help you. good luck!

Oh dear... I had the same problem... I needed to have the nuchal fold scan done because my grandmother, mother and myself have had a child with a genetic illness, before the age of 36 which puts me at high risk of having another... I kept going to the midwife who kept asking the hospital for the urgent appointment but they never got back to me.... You have between 12 and 14 weeks before these tests are no good.

Eventually, when I was 13wks +6 we just went to casualty/EPU (its not quite the same in Spain but very similar) and just sat there until they gave us one... Once a gyno had read my case notes, she gave me a quick scan, said it was fine, and sent me off for the blood work... As it was it only came back 1/1000 and I've since learnt that that's quite poor, but from the baby's movement and scans since, all looks good.

I FINALLY got my 12 week scan 3 weeks ago... yup....when I was 19 weeks ... My consultant said he would have suggested an amnio with my test results but it was too late...It's a good thing I decided that it wasn't worth it before then...

At the moment you have a while before you run out of time so to speak....but when it starts getting really close to the last date, just go to the hospital and demand it... !! Its your right.
