Bit of a weird one but im sure i heard/read somewhere ages ago that pregnant ladies should stay away from farm animals.... do you know if this is true or some mad dream i had?!!

Maybe it was just touching them... im not sure.... the reason why i ask is im supposed to be going on a day out at a farm at the weekend

x

its only sheep and lambs cus of toxiplasmosis but you can visit them just dont touch them or feed them so they cannot transfer blood or saliva onto you. i went to farm last weekend and they had signs up outside sheep pen to say if you are pregnant please do not touch the sheep and is it lambing season and this could harm you and your baby. hth xxxxx

i had no idea about that!

which farm you off to hun?

Hi

That is good to know great post hun!!
I worry about these things all the time.
What abotu birds? i know it sounds silly i was holding a parrot at the pet shop the other daya nd it bit my finger really bad, becasue he was trying ot get at my rings  do they carry anything harmful?
Its so hard to know all these things :)

Parrots can pass on Psitticosis - that can make you ill with severe flu like symptoms - but thats passed on through feather dust and parrot poo! So unlikely you would get it from a bite - you have to work or live with them very very closely to be at any risk at all. I have a parrot! :D

As far as I am aware, it is just cat poo and sheep and lambs you need to be wary of when pregnant. I have loads of animals, and my doc said it wasnt a problem.

think its dog poo too init? i know cats poo is bad.

i have zebra finches and their scared of anyone going near them i do their bath food water and dont clean em out much cause i dont wanna get nowt from their poo incase. since pregnant ive been wearing gloves when cleaning them out. always wash hands anyway for their protection and mine/babys.

i know my post aint worth nowt but had to write something lol and i didnt know nothing about lamb and sheep :O ty for info

Thanks for the info & the link - thats great. Yeah I knew about dog and cat poo & also knnow if you do any gardening then you should wear gloves. Didnt know about birds tho ... !
