We've just put a deposit down on this
http://www.mamasandpapas.com/product-ultima-9-in-1-mpx-chassis-mimi/259918700/type-i/
I spoke to my dad last night who's wife runs a baby business selling things and he thinks that the buggy is a waste of money and 1st time parents buy things like this, use them for a couple of months and then trade them in for something cheaper! He then said that people never buy anything like this for their second child as they are a huge waste of money.
This has really thrown me as we were both so excited about having found a nice light pram that does everything and he's totally put a dampner on everything!
What would you opinions be as established parents?

Awww, no, don't be disheartened... Obviously I'm no experienced mum, but you know I got this too, and it's like a gorgeous dress and high heels. Might not the easiest to maoeuvre, but make you feel great!

Also, I wouldn't be too sure about a man's opinion, they WILL fight the pretty will all their might, lol!

My mother in law was very enthusiastic about it, and she's had 3 children.

Tbh Hun, without wanting to piss on your chips, I think your dads right :( it depends entirely on you tho! You might get loads of use out of it and find it proper amazing, but in my experience I've found a lot of my friends have bought bigger prams ad then swapped for a smaller one! They are really lovely and if I'd have had more money, I'd proba have got something like that! But I found mine didn't really lie down for long in it, so you might find the carry cot part a bit redundant after a few months! Like I said, I don't wana piss on your chips at all, just offering my opinion :flower:

Don't worry, better to learn yourself and do what you want! It's part of the excitement! Most people find they swap to a cheap stick type buggy but not for ages, you can hardly use these cheap stick buggys for a new born, plus most second time mums use their pram again. I've still gone out a spent a fortune on an all singing all dancing pram even though I know I'll prob end up with a cheapy in a year! Since my daughter is 14 I don't have my old pram anymore either! Pram shopping is one of the highlights of being pregnant, esp when it's your first, enjoy it!

I have a bugaboo which is great for waliking etc but i use my strlloer more because its small and easy xx

Oh, you could also use carry cot instead of getting a Moses basket, that's what we are doing cos I think they are a waste of money for 6 weeks use!

so what if you do end up buying a smaller one? you will enjoy that one too, people are so quick to offer advice to 'help' when really they should let you do what you want!

if you don't use all the extra things that come with the pram/or things it can do, doesn't mean you haven't got your moneys worth! its about what you like, and what you think is best for your little one!
our pram is of a similar size! and my dad described it as the "tank" of prams :) and after walking around our town with a slightly smaller pram (my godsons) i wouldn't want my little man in anything other than the pram we have chosen!
don't feel down on your decision! some people have more money than sense and buy a pram like your and then don't use all the extras/things it can do and buy individual once instead!

Oh, you could also use carry cot instead of getting a Moses basket, that's what we are doing cos I think they are a waste of money for 6 weeks use!

That was part of the reason I wanted it. We live in a studio flat and might not get moved by the council for 6 months after he's born so I wanted a sturdy and hopefully long lasting Moses basket as we don't have room for a cot!! Just adds to the stress lol

I've got a silvercross linear freeway which is a Pram/pushchair yes its big But i love it! Im still using it most of the time and LO is nearly 8 months i have bought a cheaper Stroller though for when i go out in my car as its easier xx

Oooh that's so pretty.

I like ones with carry cots cos they are like mobile moses baskets in the house and are really handy for rocking baby to sleep in etc.

I've never had a m&P before so have no idea how easy they are to fold down and transport etc cos that makes a difference.

I love that pram and if i had the money that was the one i wanted as it does everything.
But i have gone for the Silver cross 3D which so many people have said is big etc but i love it.
I had a travel system with my daughter and it was the best thing and im so happy i could get one again for this one.

I used my daughters until she was nearly 2 (the pushchair bit) although we did have a lightweight stroller in the car but as i dont drive the bigger pram was good and had a decent shopping basket on the bottom.

I think you have made a good choice and will love pushing your LO in it

im a second time mum and i have bought a silvercross pram with all the extras a pushchair is something u use everyday so i think its the 1 thing u can go a bit crazy with xx

From the reviews it does seem to be mostly first time mums but all the reviews are good. I wouldnt worry what your Dad thinks so long as your happy with it thats all that matters.

I made the mistake when buying a pram for my first of getting something that I thought was just too big once I had to use it on daily basis. I say if you will be walking lots and not lugging it in and out of a car then you probably want something a bit more substantial but if you get most places by car I would say the lighter/smaller fold the better. I ended up with a c section and I had to lift my pram in and out of the car - it was horrendous! I bought an iCandy apple in 2007 and at that time it was one of the lighter travel systems but the old shape version certainly isn't one of the lighter ones!!

Those Ultima prams are actually huge - get it home to a studio apt and honestly it will be much bigger than it looks in the shop but if you have the space and it's easy to manoeuvre out of your house then go for it!! I have bought a Bugaboo this time but got it second hand off eBay and I now live in a bigger house and will be walking lots so thought it was £295 well spent. I also have a lightweight stroller which is a lifesaver for when they get bigger - great for holidays and trips out too. :)

I had the mpx for my first and sold it within 12mth. They are nice but heavy and take up room when folded. Would I have one again......... Nope not at all. But that's my view. The only thing I liked was lifting seat from car onto chasis of pram. I spent over 1k on mine with all items n sold it all for 250 as they don't resell well as too many for sale.

Sorry just my view

If you ain't got room for a cot look at the crystal crib my dd was in hers until atleast 6mth. The mpx carry cot was used about 6 week and with the stand they take lots of room up

Everyone's going to have different opinions on what a "good buy" and what isn't :)
At the end of the day I'm sure you weighed up the pros and cons of buying that particular model before you parted with any money so just because your dad isn't in total agreement with you shouldn't make too much difference.
Personally, we bought everything with all the bells and whistles for our first little man and there are soooooo many things that if I knew then what I know now I wouldn't have dreamt of throwing money away on them but hey ho... I'm sure there are many things that I'll buy this time round that I'll be saying the same thing about too :)
We bought a gorgeous bassinet for baby#1 - he was in it for approx 6 weeks before we moved him into his cot - waste of money...personally, I enjoyed using it at the time so I don't think so.
We didn't buy a stroller with a carrycot - we went for a mountain buggy - we're farmers so needed something heavy duty plus it lies flat anyway and is suitable from birth . It's not something I would have used or that I could see fitting into our lifestyle so we didn't buy it. Similarly I'm sure you can see how your pram fits into your life and how it'll work for you. Different strokes for different folks.... be warned I'm sure it's not the last time you'll have a difference of opinion with your parents in regard to baby equipment and it gets worse once the baby arrives....unless you're doing exactly what they did with you - you're doing it wrong :) So just take it with a pinch of salt and enjoy this fun stage!

Wow

Thats a hefty price tag! I'm sorry chick but I have to agree with your dad, its a lot of money for something you can get ALOT cheaper, and tbh if i seen someone with it i would never guess it cost that much. A moses basket and stand you can pick up for £50 and you can get a 3 in 1 travel system with car seat and different seating positions for £200.

Its funny coz when its your first you just want to buy everything but when you have been through it all you realise whats more important money wise.

We got a 3 in 1 travel system with my first, it was £350 and it obvs came with car seat and did from birth untill my daughter was 3 and not using a buggy anymore, and it looked the part we used to get loads of compliments about it.
