Hi , I'm looking for some advice .. We were given notice in our home due to the landlord wanting to move his family in .. My notice was up 1st august but the council informed me I had to stay put until he got a court notice to move me .. We have had the whole place boxed up ready to move to temporary accommodation as we have no clue when it will happen . We can't private rent as I have no guarantor so this is our only option .. My kids especially my oldest are finding it hard , we had to rehome our beloved cat of 4 years as he can't come with us which broke my sons heart , he has issues with change and his behaviour gets of the scales when there's even a slight change let alone all this .. Were kinda in limbo at the moment living out of bags , has anyone gone through this ? Any tips on how to cope with it ? I feel like I'm failing my children :(

You aren't failing your children. You are doing what is needed to ensure they have a roof over their heads - that is the complete opposite of failing them! You're right to stay put. The council won't help unless you are made unintentionally homeless. Might be worth explaining that to your landlord - ie. It's nothing personal, we have no other choice but to stay put. He will need a court order (I think!) stating that you must leave by xx date or legal proceedings will commence. That's what the council need as proof that you've been made unintentionally homeless. It's not as bad as it sounds - just means you will be fast tracked to the top of the list. I know someone who has been through this and the worry about what would happen was worse than the reality, which was actually just that they treated her case as an emergency one and she got a house a LOT quicker than if she'd been on a 2-year waiting list. Try not to panic. You are NOT failing your children xxx you will all be fine xxx

Has your landlord provided you with a Notice to Quit yet? Your landlord must provide you with this first. My mum was in the same boat this month - she private rented her house for years and he now wants to sell. Basically she had to obtain a notice to quit from him, submit this to the homeless workers who then bumped her up the top of the list.

My mum then moved into my old flat, only for a few weeks as the landlord eventually resorted to intimidating her. Her notice to quit went up on 24/07/2015 shes still in my flat atm - but has had some offers.

Hopefully you wont be there too long. Basically keep on at them everyday, and let them know that you cant be expected to squat basically. Hopefully they get you a house soon.

xxx

How comes you couldnt move your cat? was this because you have opted for temporary accomodation? My mum refused temporary accomodation and is allowed to take my dog with her - hes a german shepherd...

Obviously this depends on your council, Im in Scotland.

Your not failing hun far from it. I was in the same situation as you and given the same advice by the council. It was the most stressful time ever but all worth it the day we walked through the door to our new home that no one would sell with us in it. We had to stay till the court issued an eviction order and stay past that date till we was issued for a date the bailiffs would attended when we had that we was given a house. That was 12 years ago now and still there today :) I know it's scarey but it will be fine xxx
