hi all just wanted to ask your advice especially those who know alot about bfeeding. ethan is just over a week old now and when he was born he latched onto breast with no problem he had a good feed when he was first born at about half 8 , then again at midnight them again at around 5am but after that he wouldn't feed from breast - he would latch on have a couple of sucks then just lay there with my nipple in his mouth. His latch etc was checked by the midwifes but they made me so sore by squeezing my boobs in his mouth i couldn't bear touching them. The time came at around lunch time for me to be discharged but they were concerned that LO hadn't had a good feed. I tried to bfeed for around an hour but gave up because they worried me so reported to giving him bottle which he took. since then i have been bottle feeding, he is taking 2oz every 2hours which is very demanding when you have to make/sterilise bottles. I just don't know what to do because i'm feeling guilty for not breastfeeding him. Can i start again or is it too late? And is 2oz every 2hours normal? Sorry for long post just in a dilema! Xxx

I hope you get some good advice, Ive not breast fed myself yet so havent got a clue but will be checking in for the advice incase it happens to my LO too. Have you been giving him your expressed milk from a bottle? If youve still got the milk then I'd be tempted to have another go and see how he does? Im just guessing though, hope someone reads this soon! x

Hi yes i am still bottle feeding - now to add to it all he has constipation! Its really hard to know what to do as i dont want to confuse him. I thought that you cant express unless you have been breast feeding for 6weeks???

no idea!!!! I thought they got new mums to express for the tube fed prem babies though... this is all very confusing isnt it. No wonder we need BF advisors.

i've been expressing and feeding her from a bottle since lily was about a week old and we've both been fine

well i gotta say the electric ones are so much easier and quicker than the manuals, i have the medela mini and it's awesome got it for £25 off ebay
it's pretty much whack it on your boob and the pump does the hard work for you!
