Sorry another poll...

It seems really common that so many of us are having growth scans and babies that are estimated to be a litle on the biff side / big. There also seems to be a trend in that everyone who Ive spoken to that has had a growth scan says their baby weighed considerably MORE than the estimated fetal weight from the scan and predicted birth weight!

I know its not exact science and they say the scans can be out by 1lb or more but for those who've had a scan and then had their baby how close was the weight and was it over or under the estimate or prediction?

Thanks xx

I was told to expect a 5 1/2 - 6 pound baby and I got a 7 1/2 pound one instead :rotfl: and that was 3 weeks early

There guesses at weight are as accurate as you p*ssing in your lil p*ss pot tbh :D ...they have no idea

I agree! They said I was gonna have a 9+lber and then Harrison was born 7lb 10 :)

With Lydia I was told I was going to have an 8lber
ended up with a 10lbs 10oz baby!

With Alex they obviously didn't want to make the same mistake again - they just kept saying he was going to be big.
They were right, he was 10lbs 1oz.

i got told to expect a 7lber and out popped an 8lb 7oz baby boy nearly 3 weeks early

at 34 week growth scan estimated a 5lb-6 lb-er

at 37/38 wk growth scan she had grown and they estimated an average weight 6-8 lb-er

she popped out at 38 wk 5 at 7lb 1, so if she had actually gone a week or so past term she could have been almost a whopper compared to the earlier growth scan predictions!

All I will say is they guess lots of things about baby but they are not facts, so I would hope it doesn't cause you too much worry

Your going to feel your baby being born regardless of them being 6 or 10lb, so don't let weights stop you looking forward to the birth I'd say :)

My best friend is a size 8 and tiny and her second son weighed 10lb and was her quickest birth, but there will be those who say the big ones are longest, Isaac was only 8lb 2oz (I don't think 8-9lb is big at all personally) and he took days to get out

The day before he was born we had indepth scans as I'd been in labour a long time and the sonographers told me even then they'd no idea about a weight because they just cannot measure it, being told something weeks before birth is as pointless really :?

Sorry I just wittered and din't help, just wanted to pass on some hugs and say not to worry, your baby is the right size for you  Very best wishes

I think mine was fairly accurate - although they didn't predict birth weight, just estimated weight at the time. They estimated she was 7lb at 36 wks and she was born 7lb 13 at 38 weeks.

Lucy was supposed to be around 7.5lb but was actually 6lb 14 and that was two weeks over!!

thnkyou girls for your replies. I think estimated weight seems to be just a shot in the dark really. Im not too worried about my baby being big. Even if he is I'll do my very best to push him out. Im sure I wouldnt have made him so big if I couldnt deliver him :)

i didnt get any estimated weight. i asked the MW at my 39 week antenatal app and she wouldnt give me a number (much to my frustration- i wanted to kno damnit!)- but she did feel my bump and say, "well, ur not having a shrimp!" LOLZ melissa was 7lb 7oz

I was told Tia would be around 3.5kg and she popped out 3.9kg.. but not a vast difference

With Serena, I was told she was undersized at 38weeks (by fundal measurments) but the scan said she was 3kg and she popped out a week later at 4.04kg... :rotfl:

baby smile was within half a pound of the estimated weight given at a scan 2 days before he was born. (they estimated 2.6/2.7kg and he was 2.4, thats pretty close to my mind! :) )
