Thea has to have her MMR tomorrow. That's not really what im dreading, although i cant say im looking forward to it. I wanted to delay it for a while longer but Richard wants her to have it before we move back to the UK and she is his daughter too.

I'm dreading the well child check part of the appointment. Our last one was awful, with the Dr having a go at me about Thea not weighing enough and saying i should force feed her more food and cut back her breastfeeds.

I'm trying to gear myself up to be able to defend how i raise my child and i just dont think that's fair! I know she is small but hell she isnt starving by any means! Its 5.15pm here and so far today she has eaten - Two slices of toast (one with honey), a banana, grapes, two yogurt pots, ham and cheese sandwiches, spaghetti bolognese, fruit salad in pineapple juice, a snack-trap of dry cheerios and piece of pumpkin bread. That's before she has her evening meal! She's also had four boobie feeds. But that's no different from how she was eating the last time she was weighed. She weighed 17lbs 7oz at her 1 year check.

If she hasn't put on enough for weight for the Dr to be happy and he has another go at me then im not sure I'll be very calm! Richard says i have to try not to lose my temper but he wont be with me tomorrow to stop it.

Sorry i know this didn't have much point to it i just needed to vent a little

write down what you've just told us there - and anything else she eats today and take it with you. Also be prepared with the centiles - which centile was she on when she was born and has she stayed roughly constant? Take that with you too.

Then if it does come up - give a little laugh and say - I was expecting this so I brought these to reassure you and show them your notes. Then question any effects her weight may have on her development...because there aren't any. A malnourished child would be listless, tired and poorly developed...and she ain't. :D

good luck hun

Good luck tomorrow, I hope that it doesn't go as badly as you fear

Thea doesn't look like a starving child and that doctor perhaps should spend more time looking at her instead of the charts!

Fingers crossed for the MMR too

Hi Melanie,

I don't have any advice but I wanted to wish you love and luck. I think you are an amazing mum and I know that you are confident in all the decisions you have made as a Mum as you talk about them so passionately.

Don't be bullied (I know you won't be) and I love the idea about writing down all she's eaten and taking in her growth charts to show the doc. Maybe even download the child growth chart for breastfed babies from the World Health Organisation website (if like the U.K. your growth chart in your child's health book is for formula fed babies?).

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

I just wanted to say that no-one loves Thea more than you and his un-professional opinion, which it is, you're her Mummy and see her eating daily and being healthy and happy daily, he doesn't, he has no right to judge her whole existance on a weight :talkhand:

Say whatever you want to him, you have a right to voice your opinion, he is there to offer advice and support, not to judge you and suggest force feeding your baby  Remember that after the appointment you will be going home where he no longer has any influence whatsoever, and you will continue to care for Thea with the upmost love

I really hope she is OK after the immunisation too, they are not very nice, but she will do better for having such a great Mummy like you, very very best wishes and good luck

How did you get on at the docs Melanie and how is Thea after her MMR?

Our appointment went really well. Our normal Dr had been called out on an emergency so we saw a diferent one. She was so nice. I talked to her about Thea's weight and she told me not to worry and that weight is just a number lol. As far as she is concerned Thea is better than fine and to just continue the way we are.

Thea was fine having the MMR, she didnt even cry she just said ouch and turned to the Dr looking very crossed and said "you bad!" She's been today, running around and happy so fingers crossed she'll be ok.

Brilliant news Melanie - I'm really happy for you both.

That's great news, and just LOL at "you bad!" :rotfl:
Glad you're feeling happy about the appointment Melanie, very best wishes to you both

I was going to say that. She doesn't look malnourished or anything at all. My cousin was told that her girls were underweight etc and she just thought "stuff you. I know that my girls are absolutely fine"
