Hi people,

I found out i was pregnant on wednesday 1st sep and was shocked but very pleased, my boyfriend and i have been to the doctors but she didnt seem very helpfull!! So now we are just waiting to hear from the midwife team to arrange a first meeting. We are very excited but not entirely sure if they are gonna do a scan straight away to find out how far gone i am or if they just predict it from last period and aim for the twelve week scan first? Can anyone help with this please?

Also ive never been much of a big eater, sometimes i would only eat once a day and sometimes i wouldnt eat anything all day! because i just didnt feel hungry, but now im pregnant my boyfriend keeps on at me to try and eat at least 3 times a day and i am trying but i just cant eat much and feel bloated all the time, does anyone else feel like this?

Thanks:)

Hey, firstly CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Secondaly, dont worry about the doctor/midwife thing - I went to my doctor when I was around 4 weeks, and he didnt do anything, apart from talk to me. He worked out how far gone I was by counting from the first day of my last period - which seems strange, as it adds on about 2 weeks, but if you click on someones pregnancy ticker, you can put it all in online, and it will give you a due date - which is scary!!! Because I had regular cycles, and I could tell them when my last period was, they will probably leave it till 12 weeks scan, which is called the dating scan, so then they check your dates.

Also, with the eating thing, I was feeling so sick the first week, and couldnt really eat much, but was so conscious of the fact I needed to eat! I got some multi vitamins called pregnacare (were on offer in superdrug), which contains everything you will need. I have been on a diet for the last year, and even now, am struggling with the concept of eating 3 large meals a day, but im slowly getting used to it! I have had a constant bloated stomach and cramps/twinges as well, and I look about 6 months gone after a meal! But think the bloat does go down - its just your body adjusting to everything going on inside.
Welcome anyway, and let us know how you get on :-) xx

Thankyou for you're quick reply :)
Ok i was thinking of getting some supplements so that im getting all the good stuff i need cause i am worried that im not getting it because im not eating much but i was gonna wait for the midwife to advise me on which to take, but i might just have a look before cause im not sure when they will call me.
Also the doctor gave me folic acid tabs but they are 5mg ones and ive been reading on the net and in books and ive seen it says that you should be taking 400micrograms which is 0.4mg unless you have had a previous child whith problems then you should take 5mg but this is my first?

Lol - my hubby is fast asleep on the sofa, so im just browsing on here - it gets sooo addicitve, especially when you relate to what other people are going through!

I think the norm for folic acid is 400mg, which is what I was taking before i got pregnant. Then I bought the pregnacare ones, as it contains the 400mg of folic acid, loads of other vitamins, but not too much of other vitamins, which can be a bit harmful when your pregnant - I think some normal vitamins may contain too much vitamin A, possibly, for pregnant women. It also contains an extra tablet of omega 3. They are normally quite expensive, but down to about a fiver for a months worth in superdrug, so defo worth having a look. TBH, i still feel like shit, lol, but at least I know there is some kind of nutrients going in! Especially for you, if you are very worried about not eating. But there are some ladies on here, who hardly ate at all for the first few months, purely because of really bad morning sickness, so try not to worry too much :-) x

Congratulations. :)
With the eating thing, I've pretty much been that way throughout the whole of my pregnancy. Before I found out I went a few days without eating at all because I was just vomiting all the time. Try and eat little and often, that's what my midwife suggested. Even now with just over 7 weeks to go, I'm still finding it difficult to eat. I found it was easier if I ate small stuff like cheese and crackers, and ginger biscuits help if you're feeling sick.
But yeah, I haven't been one to eat a lot throughout this pregnancy, and my baby is fine size-wize. Never had any problems there.
Good luck and enjoy your pregnancy. :)
