Hi when i had my son back in july 2007, i was told by the MW's and other people that baby should not be taken outside for at least 10 days...this actually drove me mad- as it was so hot that summer.

Does this still apply- or did it ever?
Or did i just have an overprotective mw last time round????

I did however have to take my son "outside" as we had to go back to the hospital when he was 4 days old due to breathing difficulties.

Never heard of it hun. Ezzie has been taken out and about since day one pretty much. Aslong as ur careful you'll be fine. Xx

i dont think there would be a problem i think id strugle if i had to stopp in 10 days with a newborn lol i didnt think there was a rule as you have to meave hospital with baby anyways so no matter what you still goin out side even if it just to get in a car, it would be hard for me as family aent so close and most work so would be doin shopping and stuff on my own i think staying away from people with colds and stuff is best too

I took charley shopping when he was 3 days old. Do what your comfitable with hun

The mw said we were fine to go out as soon as i felt ready, i had to be carefull though as i had lots of stitches and was bleeding heavy x

I took him to asda the day after he was born. Aslong as your ready it's fine. Mind you, I got a few comments like "he might get an infection" and "when mine were wee, we didn't take them out until they were baptised" lol

Omg this is the sillyest rule iv heard and cnt believe they actually told u u had to stay in for 10 days besides the fact this would drive u insane as its bad enough staying in due to the weather or if ur unwell staying in with a newborn for 10 days I see no benefit both u and baby need fresh air for a start never!! No one can tell u what to do u no what's best for u and ur baby I was desprate to get out n about as when dd was born it was early September and boiling I didn't drive for a few days from what I remember coz it was sore to sit for a while but we went out for walks n it was lovely this time my baby due in April n I will be out n about as long as its physically possible being out in the fresh air and the sun. My mw said that sunlight is best for babies coz it prevents jundis I know wrong spelling lol we used to let her sleep in front of our patio doors in our living room n she was so happy in there

i've never heard of that one either... i seem to remember something about baby's wearing a hat but not indoors all the time as they can get too hot?!

ive never heard of this! I certainly wont be staying in doors for 10days unless im physically incapable of going out! i'll stay away from people with colds etc but the fresh air will do him good and sunlight helps with preventing jaundice

I have not heard of this either, when my oldest was born he was jaundiced and we where adviced to take him out as much as possible so the sunlight would clear it.

I thought they had to go out to get vit d from natural sunlight. I would maybe avoid crowded places - just coz people get on my nerves anyway and if your breast feeding you might not want to be out long but I see no harm in a quick walk to the shop.

I had DS in 2006 and was told to stay indoors for a week! Depending on the labour this time round I may not feel like goin anywhere before then anyway so thats fine by me of the same rules apply! Xx

hey,
i think its does for very prem babies, as ive just had a midwife visit and she informed us not to take him out for ten days or so, as hes still only just over 4lb 3oz, we have only been out of hosp for a day and a half xxxxxxxxxx

It was the mums that weren't allowed out for 10 days not the baby, bay is allowed out from day 1, becuase your supposed to be taking it easy years ago they used to keep you in hospital for 10 days to make sure you recovered and didn;t get infection or end up with prolspsed womb. but when i had my youngest last year midwife told me that you should still take it easy for 10 days but she understands that we dont have the luxury to just take it easy for 10 days anymore expecially when some of us have other children and husbands cant take time off work or work away, but to still try to take it easy.

i've heard of something like this ....but it was for kittens not babies ;) xx
