does anyone know where you stand if you privately rent but the flat your renting is showing serious signs of damp / and mouldy ? its on a outside wall too and whats worse its lelands room , ive moved some stuff away from the wall today cos it smelled ( pop up toy tidy and a big teddy thing) and the wall is black  and the wallpaper peeling from the bottom , it was a little bit damp when we painted in there over a year ago but this is now really bad . we;ve also got damp in the bathroom and its the same wall .

just getting bit worried as babes had a cough for 3 weeks now  , ive got one of the moisture absorb thing in there but it doesnt seem to do alot the window is still soaking wet and the net curtains are always damp ?

Help ?

Hiya,

have you spoken to your landlord about this? I'm not to sure if it the law that they have to sort it out?!!?

we had a similar situation i our old house the roof was leaking and it was causing the window to leak and the only way we we're able to get it fixed was to lie to our landlord and tell her that our son is in that room.

I contact your landlord and ask that he asks someone to take a look, we have damp in all rooms in my house bar LO's room. So you've said that things like the curtains are damp and wet there maybe be a problem, with a window/roof/outside wall which should be checked out, once you have found the problem and its been sorted (by the lardlord) you can get a paint the helps stop damp come through, we are planning on doing it when OH has a week off in Feb. Kyla keeps getting chests infections, wheezes and cough so i know how the damp can be so frustrating to sort, because you want to sort it out quickly.

The landlord should deffinately sort out that problem as it sounds like water is getting in somehow. Hope you get it sorted hun

Ooh thanks for posting this Gem, we have the same issue.

Araminta - we rent through an agency so do we contact them to ask the landlord?

When we moved in the rooms has just been painted by the previous tenant - back to magnolia.
Now, a month and a half later we have mushrooms growing at the top inside the recess bit of the window, plus damp in the cupboard and it's appearing on the ceilings. There is also a few spots o it in Fi's room.

It's really gross and was obviously hidden by the new coat of paint it had had and now it's grown back.
