I have mw grade doppler whih is fantastic, although i don't use it much now i can feel bubs move. I didn't buy the angel sounds on as i had heard mixed reviews and wanted one that picked up bubs heartbeat early, i picked up hb at 8.5 weeks.

r u talking about a doppler? cuzz the 1 i'm on about is a monitor? i find a pic hang on

I'm not sure which one you're looking at but there was an Angel Sounds listener that turned out to be a rip off but there are certain ones that get good reviews. If it's only a tenner then dont bother with it!

no lol! thought i'd add pic ppl gettin confused

I didnt want a movement monitor because I think it would make me more nervous! The normal monitors drive you insane in the early weeks wondering if they are actually working so a breathing mat thingy would send me over the edge!

i thought that at 1st but then i spoke 2 2 patients that babies had died from cot death, i know i'm being morbid but i think havin the pad would make me feel better.

I had that monitor with my little boy and worked great in a crib. If we moved him and forgot to switch it off, it went off cos it couldn't feel him breathing. I loved it. It meant as a new mum I could sleep without worrying and I've kept it for my next one xxx

This is the one im thinking of getting its got good reviews on mothercare (i think) :) x

^^^^^ yeh ive read really gud reviews on it 2 on kiddicare just

Hiya, we got one when there was an offer on in Tesco, we paid £50 for it which I thought was pretty good! I read some reviews saying it didn't work if the baby had moved around the cot, but turns out you have to put a bit of ply board on top of it the full size of the mattress (under the mattress of course) so that it picks up bubs movements wherever he or she is. Of course you can use it without the sensor mat too if it's causing too much stress. Oh I've not had a chance to use it by the way, just read loads!!

I love mine... it definitely helps me sleep instead of making me more nervous. Before I bought it for Sam I was constantly checking on him every time I woke up but it just gave me total peace of mind and I've used it from the start with Toby. The alarm has never gone off with Toby in the crib or the cotbed so far, and only went off a few times with Sam when he was sideways in the cot and right up against the headboard so it was obvious why as soon as I went in - and most of the time even when he was lying like that it would still work fine. I'd definitely recommend it! x

You put the plywood under the monitor x

^^^ ive read that 2 that u have 2 put some wood under the mattress

We've just got a big sheet of wood across the slats on the bottom of the cotbed, then monitor and mattress on top of that x

Ah thanks Sam's Mum! We got it a few weeks back and I had a wee read at the instructions but obviously didn't take it all in!

I've heard about these. How much do they normally set you back like? x

I bought one of these for a friend after having it recommended by my SIL. Then, after speaking to a good friend of my hubby's (he's a consultant paediatrician) and bemoaning the fact that these things don't exist in hospitals in the country my friend lives in, he said "well, it's because they don't work. They're a fabulous marketing ploy to make mums and dads paranoid"

On that basis, I'd not bother forking out for them. I thought they were a terrific idea but the baby bed-pad thing doesn't, apparently, work.

Just thought I'd play Devil's Advocate and give a differing opinion in case it's a lot of money you're thinking of shelling out.

The monitors are fab, though - the angel care speaker things. My friend still uses hers to listen-in on her little one when she's playing with her friends in another room, as she works from home and can't always be in the same space and said it's been great.
