Hi I'm just wondering if anyone has type 2 diabetes and is pregnant please ? I am really worried and don't know what to expect xxx

Hi
I have type 2 diabetes, have had it for 11 years.
Having first baby what would you like to know? Hope I can help

Hi this is my third but didn't have diabetes then. This bean wasn't planned so I didn't prepare or anything I'm just really worried and not sure what to expect. Thank you for your reply x

Hi
I forgot to ask are you on tablets or insulin?
I am on both, I have a diabetic nurse which if you don't have I would say get on as soon as possible.
You will be told that your blood sugars have to be 5 or below before meals and 7 or below ONE hour after which I have to say is very hard work.
If you have anything you want to ask me then please do and if I can help I will.
Look after yourself x

Hiya

I'm on tablets. But my sugar levels are unstable peaking at 22.6. I have been to docs today and registered with midwife they are referring me to the diabetic care team :) thank you xx
I'm just worried as I said as baba wasn't planned and I didn't prepare. But hopefully appointment will be through very soon

You will be seen very quickly, also baby will be fine at this early stage. I don't want to scare you but I can imagine you will be put on insulin. Please let me know how you get on.
Wishing you lots of luck and a happy pregnancy x

I am type 2 as well, I have been very well managed by the diabetologists at the local hospital, levels of 22 are high so I imagine they will put you on insulin sooner rather than later. I was on metformin pre pregnancy and stayed on it till around 18-20 weeks, I am now 30 and the amount of insulin I am taking has been increasing slightly but as long as you manage it well and keep in contact with the diabetic team if you have concerns you'll be fine :)

If you're afraid with the medicines, take herbal supplements that won't complicate but will more to you and your baby - I have this completephtyoenergizer - just sharing! Friends use it...

Diabetes is a condition in which the amount of sugar (glucose) in the blood is too high. Glucose comes from the digestion of starchy foods, such as bread and rice. Insulin, a hormone produced by your pancreas, helps your body use glucose for energy.

Three types of diabetes can affect you when you're pregnant. Type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes are long-term conditions that women may have before they get pregnant (pre-existing diabetes). Gestational diabetes develops only in pregnancy and goes away after the baby is born.
