Hi all,

I have a 3 week old baby daughter and we are having such problems with her. In the last week or so she has started being very hard to settle after a feed. She starts off very happy and calm and by the time we've finished feeding her she is screaming, clawing at you and is very restless and impossible to settle. Last night she screamed and writhed about for a good 3 hours before we could get her to sleep. Both me and my husband are at our wits end. I took her to the dr's yesterday and he said it sounded like she had colic?

I have been treating this with Dentanox but the dr said to try Colief. Trouble is this is hard to feed to our baby as you need to make it up 30 mins in advance (I use ready to pour formula from a carton- SMA Gold) and i'm sure you all know that a baby won't wait for 30 mins for their food!!!! Has anyone experienced similar and if so can anyone give me any tips/help? I really am desparate and it's stopping us being able to enjoy our baby which really upsets me.

Can't you make up a bottle in advance, put it in and then put bottle in fridge till you need it? My Lo didn't have colic so can't really help much sorry

Would it not be better to start using powder rather than the ready to use milk so you can use the colief?
Do you give it to her at room temp as i found my son is much better after a feed if its warm.

Why are you using ready made? It's so expensive! The best thing you can do is buy SMA powder. Boil your kettle & sterilise your bottles. Once the kettle water has cooled to warm rather than hot, pour it into your sterilised bottles, add the powdered milk (same amount of scoops of powder to oz of water in the bottle - 4oz water needs 4 scoops, 5oz water needs 5 scoops & so on). Shake the bottles to make the milk & then add 2 drops of Colief. You have to keep them in the fridge for a minimum of 4 hours before you can use them & they will keep in the fridge for 12 hours. If not you have to add 4 drops when freshly made or using ready made & wait 30 minutes. Your baby will wait 30 minutes if you cuddle them & give them their dummy (if they have one). It seems cruel when they cry for 30 minutes, but trust me it is far better than the agony they suffer with colic. Holly would cry from 9pm - 2am every night until we started using Colief. She was a different baby once we'd started using it. If you get organised & let her cry for 1 feed at start of the day, but then make enough feeds for 12 hour period it's much easier. But please use the Colief rather than thinking it's too hard to use. It does work. A hungry crying baby for 30 minutes is far better than a baby screaming in pain for hours.
They out grow colic at around 12-14 weeks, so it's not for long.

My son had it and I knew it was the milk. I tried all the milk brands- powdered and cartons nothing helped except Colief. Get that as soon as you can so that ur lil one is relieved..I wish I had done it at 3 weeks..we came to know when he was almost 10 weeks..good luck
