Cycle buddy

We initially just used ovulation predictor calculators, then I started using OPKs, and last month I started monitoring BBT as well.

It turns out I have a slightly shorter luteal phase than average, so was ovulating a few days later than the calculators predicted based on cycle length.

Ok, that is very interesting to know. I am gonna try 3mths at least as I am and see how it goes and if nothing happens I will be looking to try other new ideas.
Happy New Year

I am just 'going with the flow' i keep forgetting to take my temp in the morning! plus i always have disturbed nights with Ewan so i don t think i will get an accurate temp.
I though about OPK's but always swore i wouldn't use them as i don't want to make my self worry.
So its just a case of bd every other day once things have stopped down below!
my cycles have always been irregular around 35-30 days, sometimes i think i may have pcos but have never had anything checked out.
But i concieved Ewan within 6 months, but it seems to be taking a tad longer this time round!
I tried the magic cough medicine last month but nothing so hubby is now taking zinc and selenium tablets to help his bits and i am taking evening primrose, folic acid, honey and trying to get more excersise and drink more water (i am terrible at remembering to drink!!)
Good luck to you all this month!

never heard evening primrose mentioned b4. what is it supposed to do?

I also keep forgetting to take my temp at the moment, but will try to remember for the next couple of weeks. I tried the magic med last month as well but kept forgetting to take it so unsurprisingly I don't think it had any effect!

What makes you think you might have PCOS?? and why do you think using OPKs would make you worry. sorry for all the questions, just curious.

Goodluck over the next week or so!

This is what my doctor advised me of as well! I have read numerous websites and spoke to 3 different doctors and everyone advises against BBT, as they are inacurate, the lightest thing can change your temeperature

I though about OPK's but always swore i wouldn't use them as i don't want to make my self worry. I have the EXACT same views!!! However I am giving them a shot this month, mainly to be sure that when I think am ovalating, that I actually am, I only judge my ovalation based on CM as this source is extremely reliable, I want to see that the results of OPK's Match this, I dont know if il continue using them though, as I think do things like this would make me stressful and prevent me getting pregnant as I would become so engrossed in timing etc, id forget to enjoy myself and wheres the fun in all this timed things for my partner? It would put him under stress!!!

So its just a case of bd every other day once things have stopped down below! Thats what we did last month and doing the same this month! SO much more reliable doing it every 2nd day!! than just humpin like mad round when you approx think your ovulating

I tried the magic cough medicine last month but nothing so hubby is now taking zinc and selenium tablets to help his bits and i am taking evening primrose, folic acid, honey and trying to get more excersise and drink more water Snap same as me and my partner, tho am giving this magic medicine ago for the first time this month!

ALL THE BOLD BITS ARE MY COMMENTS :D [/b]

Personally my OH found trying to BD everyother day more stressful than us just trying to BD at least once (but preferably more) well-timed with ovulation.

I think everyone finds different things work best for them, in the same way as nobody has exactly the same cycles/fertility patterns/symptoms etc.

I've also found BBT seems to work quite well as a confirmation of ovulation but thats just me..ditto comment above.

Will be starting to use OPK tomorrow.

When i do my temp the chart looks like a mountain range!! Difficult to say when ovulation starts, also my CM doesn't always match in with my ovulation at times.
Trust me to be so difficult!

I'm due to ovulate around Jan 10th.

Baby dust to you all.

Hi Becs....goodluck! x

After saying I'd start with the OPk tomorrow I ended up testing just now as had some watery cm today and didn't want to miss ovulation if it was early for some reason...was negative though.

Thought I would also give the magic medicine a try as well. I am gonna strt this around the 05th Jan twice a day - fingers crossed.
I have been off the pill for a year & nothing has happened - would any of you have already spoken to your GP yet???
I did this sometime back when we tried and he just said 'keep practicing'. I don't want to go to the doctor for no reason.

S :wall:

I think if I'd been trying a year I probably want to go to the GP and get some questions answered...even if they could just give you more advice other than "keep practising" which seems pretty pointless advice if you ask me. How long had you been trying when you first went?

WE had been trying for exactly a year when i went to my GP for help/advice. He claimed that it was very normal not to get pregnant after a year of trying so I was none the wiser.
I then went back on the pill as we then decided to move house and that we are settled we have been trying for a year this month.
It is so strange how some ppl get pregant so quick. My sister who is older (I am 31) came off the pill one month and was pregnant the next.

yeh its werd , only in may 2005 i fell pregnant with one accident on one day ! and now im trying , its been 12 months , very wierd our bodies !

My sister was exactly the same...she's 2 years older than me, has two beautiful kids and never had to try for either!! I believe she is hyperfertile!! V. jealous

If I was you sclingham I'd go back to the docs and demand a proper appointment where they actually discuss things properly. I know that for a lot of people it takes longer than a year, but everywhere I've been reading it says that your doc should begin to investigate if you've been trying for a year with no success, even if it is just basic investigation to start with, it may be reassuring.

yes - I know I should do that soon. I have kind of decided to give it three months more then I am off to the GP. I just hope it happens soon naturally cause I am not sure if I could ever through any treatments of any kind.

Question - is everybody out there who's trying to conceive popping the Folic Acid yet?????

Yep, the advice I've had from everyone on here is to take folic acid from the moment you start trying, its not expensive and is well worth taking for the benefits to your future babe.

just wondered how everyone is doing.

I'm still waiting for my positive OPK. cd 17 today so should be soon. Off to MIL's on weds so hopefully it should occur before then!!

All is we ll this end. I have started the Magic Med' and just putting in as much practice as we can. Was watching a prog' last nite and the advice is to have as much sex as you can leading up to Ovulation so that there is lostof sperm to pounce on the egg when it appears.

i have started with the opks testing every other day so will see what happens. am on day 14.

Hey Chellie, I went to my GP after I had been trying for a year, Unfortunatly i was half way thru tests when my gp left, then I got another one, then I moved house and had to change surgerys but one things for sure all 3 GP's advised against charting. Which is why I have been hesitent in doing it.

But I remember asking my GP how much is alot of sex, and she said 4 times a week should give you a high chance of concieiving within..... wait for it 12 MONTHS

4X A week is alot of sex  esp over 12 months

I have now been passed to the Fertility Clinic as the doctor cant find anything wrong with me or my partner. (Which is a good sign) she was extremely hesitent in transferring me to the fertility clinic as she said if the fertility clinic dont find anything wrong with me they will write me off as being infertile anyway. She thinks my problem is I want to be pregnant so much that its actually preventing me from being pregnant.

Its a viscious circle
