Can some one offer me some suggestions for what to do?

My Jack is drving me bonkers today. He's tired - I can see he's tired because he has shadows round his eyes. But he wont sleep. He's just crying.

I swear I have tried everything - he's clean, not too hot or cold, been fed and offered more food that he's turning his nose up at, he's been winded and gripe watered, cuddled, sung to etc. I thought about giving him a bath but that usually works him up rather than calms him down, and he's not keen on massage either. We've been out for a drive and a push in the pram and he wont settle for more than 2 or 3 mins.

Anyone got any more ideas? I feel like I'm gonna scream right back at him!

lelands colic started at 6 weeks  and sometimes still there's nothing i can do to help him he just has to cry it out and usually cries himself to sleep i put him in his cot with music and mobile on and horribly shut the door , i go back after 5 mins , cuddle him and stroke his head and leave again ( msybe offering dummy too ) usually i dont have to go back after 10 .

you tried slingin him about? xx

Felt too stressed to risk it! Might let go! (sorry, poor joke)

Leaving him to cry breaks my heart, but while I've been sat here seems to have quietened down.

I really don't want to go through 4 - 6 weeks of this! I will loose my mind - or worse still my rag! He's been so good and quiet until now. I forsee a lot of cig breaks outside while he screams himself out. Yes, it has driven me back to the demon baccy

awww :( all us mums of colic suffers know exactly how you feel. It does get better honestly!

When my son gets one of his demon colic episodes. I wrap him up in a blanket really snug, give him his dummy (usually he spits it out in pure rage but if i put a bit of gripe water on the end he usually forgets to spit it out!) put him over my shoulder (just incase anymore wind wants to come up) and bounce up and down my living room saying "ssssshhh" like a complete mongo.

If that fails i do the same as G3M. As long as i check on him regularly i dont mind him "screaming it out".

Good luck hope it gets better soon!

Layla gets colicky too and we have bouts of crying as well. I have a sling like this:

http://www.babycurls.co.uk/premaxxadven ... 0bf1bd2747

which i put layla in and i walk around the house with her dummy and sing or "shhhh" to her. It works a treat and she eventually settles. I just keep her in it and carry on with my daily chores :D I recommend trying some infacol too, it's been really helpful for easing Layla's colic.

you walk up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down all the while saying shhhh shhhh shhhh....shhhh shhhh shhhh....shhhh shhhh shhhh....shhhh shhhh shhhh....shhhh shhhh shhhh....shhhh shhhh shhhh....shhhh shhhh shhhh....shhhh shhhh shhhh....shhhh shhhh shhhh....shhhh shhhh shhhh....shhhh shhhh shhhh....shhhh shhhh shhhh....shhhh shhhh shhhh....shhhh shhhh shhhh....shhhh shhhh shhhh....shhhh shhhh shhhh.... and eventually by sheer tenacity and pig headedness (and a lil bordem thrown in for good measure) they pass out :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Is he bottlefed?

No, he's a boob-baby, but he still mangages to gulp loads of air that he takes in through his nose. Don't know how to stop him doing that.

He finally calmed down and slept for an hour, then he was up again and howling. When he finally fell asleep around 10pm he slept till 2.30am!

Must have worn him self out good and proper!

Got hubby home with me today so we can tag team him so I can have some rest.

Thanks

Had his weighed today and he's 12lb 4.5oz, which is only 2oz heaver than last week so maybe he is hungry.

And it's really warm here today too, hubby thinks he might be too hot so have him in just his nappy (Jack, not my hubby)

Hmm, this sounds REALLY familiar. Is it possible to have colic as early as a week old?!

Luke has been EXACTLY the same yesterday and today.

He was fine in the morning, then as soon as we went out and were in the heat, even though he had on only shorts and t-shirt, he was going crazy, screaming like mad. I got so stressed and worried that something was wrong that I rushed home from Tesco to Matt in a bit of a state.

The screaming continued for ages and ages and he finally settled last night around 11pm. He usually wakes every 2ish hours for feeds in the night but last night he fed at 10pm, was asleep by 11, woke at about 2 for a feed then didnt wake again til 6am! He then slept from about 7am til 10am on Matt. That was the best night we have had since he was born!

I hoped he would be better today but he's not really. He screamed and screamed most of the afternoon while we were out. I'm assuming he is hot as he is not happy at all to be honest. He is ok now, fast asleep so I think it is the heat that is making him like this.

I'm just trying to make sure he is cool, not at all over-dressed (the HV complimented us on our choice of clothing for him yesterday because she said so many people come in with their babies dressed in jeans and jumpers in this weather when they're dressed in summer clothes themselves!). I also bought a shade-a-babe cover for his pram today which is fab! I thoroughly recommend it. I've also given him a little bit of cooled boiled water which he has liked. Only an ounce, but I do think he gets a bit thirsty between feeds.

Maybe your baby is the same though and just adjusting to the heat? Since they were born it's been chilly right up til now....

Luke's colic has been much better since we started iving him Infacol before every feed and used to start around 5-6pm and not end til 11ish...

I would say around the colicy times, dont expect to get anything done! I had to sit near imogen while he was in a bouncy chair and guess what - i had to bounce it manually so she could see me! found my swing invaluable around this time too!!!

Colicy times are hard and push mums to the limit but if you have too lay him own in his cot for a few mins while you have a cup of tea - do it because you need time to calm down too!

A sling helped when Cammy had colic. He was basically in it all day it seemed to relieve the pain.

and i swear by lelands swing when he was colicy , was the only thing to settle him , and it still does a fab job when his whinging now!

It must be the heat for Jack - I think we have it sussed!

Took him out yesterday in just a vest and nappy and he was much happier, also went to Argos and bought 2 fans, one on a stand for the livingroom which we had on all evening, and a small one for the bedroom that stayed on all night. we've kept him in just his nappy again while we've been in the house and kept the door open for as much as possible.

And guess what - happy baby! He slept yesterday from 5.30 till 9.30 and after an hour and a half went down again until 4am!

He was up at 6.30 crying because he was too cool so I put a light sheet over him and he went off again.

Now I'm just over tired and need to catch up on my own sleep.
