At the mo I am employed by my DH company (I dont really do much). I am however looking for a little part time job. As you will see Im TTC baby no 2. This is where Im confused: If I get a job soon with another company but then fall pregnant will I get maternity benefit from my DH company which Im only paid a minimal amount. (Im presuming I will not be at the new job long enough to qualify)

I hope that makes sense????

So long as you have been working for your current employer for 26weeks before the 15th week before you are due (I hope that makes scence) then you will be entiiled to SMP, £117 per week, or 90% of your average weekly earnings, whichevers less.

Unless you have been with the other employer for the stipulated amount of time, then you will not qualify for any benifits from that employer.

Hope that helps, google SMP there are a few sites that are helpfull.

Ok thanks for that.

So I currently get paid my DH company £100 I would be entitled to £90 per week maternity???

90% Only for 6 weeks before baby is due, once baby arrives it would be around £112pw for the remaining 32 weeks
(Think i'm missing a week out here but cant remember!)

SMP is 117 per week now, not 112. I believe its which ever figure is less, as she is earning 100pw at the moment, she will not be given 117 for going on mat leave. She wil continue to earn the lowest amount which is 90%, so yes, £90 per week is what your SMP will be I believe.

If you have 2 jobs and you fulfil the criteria for both (you've been working for them long enough etc.) you are entitled to 2 sets of SMP. I know it sounds unlikely but I have 2 jobs and they both told me I would get SMP. I called payroll at my second job (which is working for the city council) and apologised that I hadn't made it clear that I would get SMP from my main employer but they insisted I was entitled to it from them aswell as from my main employer. I've done a lot of research on this since then as I don't want to think I have all this money and then have it taken away from me - 39 weeks at £117.18 is over £4500!!! - but it appears to be true. Also, you can take maternity leave at different times - so I can return to my main job but still get SMP from my second job. It's a crazy loophole but it is there. Have a look at the government's website for back up on what I'm saying. http://www.dwp.gov.uk/lifeevent/benefit ... p#whatknow
The only thing to remember would be that you only get one set of personal allowance so one set of SMP would be taxed at the full amount.

Thank you for that info.

Just a quick question when you started your other 2nd job as you didnt have a P45 to give them how is your tax worked out????

I have been working both jobs for 2 years. For job 2 (you get to say who is your main employer as you fill in the tax form thing) I pay tax and national insurance on the full amount I earn as my main employer takes my personal allowance (the bit you don't pay tax and NI on) into account. My employer gave me the forms so I don't know where you get them.
