My HV has just recommended i give Eva corned beef of all things! (to up her calorie intake as she is still having several breastfeeds at night) :puke: surely this isnt a suitable baby food, must be full of bad fat and salt?
I am feeling quite discouraged now, I thought i was doing well but sounds like im not giving her enough junk! BigMac for tea then....... :wall:

Dunno why i bothered going to clinic today, was hoping for a little more constructive advice....

:puke: :puke:

i don't think i'd be giving that to connor - i know i'm a bit OCDish about what he eats anyway, but my problems with corned beef would be:

* you don't know what the cut of meat is
* you don't know the quality of the meat (i'm pretty sure your average corned beef tin isn't from an organic free-range cow)
* the salt levels can't be good - its meat preserved in brine ffs!

:? IMHO your hv has given you some very odd advice and if i were you, i'd pay no attention whatsoever!

i'd thought about giving connor porridge with fruit puree for pudding in the evening... i'm desperate for him to cut down on the night feeds atm too, and thought that might be a good option for keeping him satisfied for longer. surely its got to be better than corned beef anyway

absolutely full of salt, I'd never feed it to either of mine or the cat :puke:

OMG. What crap advice. I would not feed Corned Beef to my Barney!

Maybe try a little bit of porridge with something added to it perhaps? Banana or apple or some such mixed in. Its very filling so should not need too much of it.

Defo not corned beef though :/

What next - pureed Big Mac? :wall: HV's are a strange breed.

If you are actually bothered about calorie intake then hummous is fairly high calorie as is avocado. However, the fact that she is having breast feeds at night is quite normal and not a sign that she needs more calories.

Dont worry I really had no intention of feeding her corned beef, I just couldnt believe this was advice! Even my MIL was shocked lol :D
Am liking the porridge idea though purple, it would be very nice to get a bit more sleep!

Im quite disappointed actually as a few weeks ago when we started weaning I had a good chat with this same hv who I thought was quite encouraging re blw, but she was like a different person this time, maybe it was her evil twin!

My friend gave her LO Ready Brek the other night and he slept through for the first time in a year!

Corned beef shouldn't really be given to babies under 9 months. xx
