Cool boiled water

My little boy is 10days old, and he is being bottle fed. Today we seen the health visitor (she was a student about to graduate) and she said that if my boy is hungry before he's due another feed, to try and give him some cool boiled water from a bottle.
Has anyone done this?
I thought I was supposed to give him milk when he wanted it.

Babies this age don't need water unless constipated or it's really hot just give milk babies at this age need feeding little and often not made to wait a bit before feeding also if breast feeding they don't need water at all as the foremilk is their drink xxx

I was told by my midwife that they didn't need water until they started weaning as they get everything they need from their milk, she said that applied to ff or bf. I only used to give Phoebe water if she was constipated x

Jesus lol. A baby of that age should have milk if it's hungry not water. Just keep offering him milk when you think he is hungry.

Thanks ladies... I don't care how often he's wanting it or wakening for it. He's not greedy with it I don't think. He doesn't drink it all if he doesn't need it!xxx

I would just feed on demand Hun , if ur baby is hungry they want milk not water xxx

God cant believe a HV said that , all of the HV nurses doctors books ect say only give water if constipated , a baby that age needs milk when ever they want it nothing more x

thanks ladies... I'm a bit annoyed she said that now... I didn't think it was right.
He's not constipated at all.
She also made a comment about me using SMA gold... But said she couldn't reccomend which one to use, but to be aware that It can cause problems and I will have to switch at some point...
I should see my actual health visitor next week hopefully, I will maybe mention it to her.

Why on earth would she say you'd have to change from SMA Gold!? Weird. I use cow & gate. But I'm sure plenty of people have used sma with no problems.
I'd definitely mention the things she's said to your normal HV x

The only problem I had with sma was that Sophie's poos went green so I got a bit worried and changed to aptamil comfort. I would also go with feeding on demand, if he's crying then it's one of 3 things; cuddles, nappy change or wanting feeding so therefore hungry.

We use SMA have done with both my kids and they are fine yes some babies it can cause constipation but that happens with all formula one doesn't suite every baby carry on as you are Hun if the formula is agreeing with her

I would say at 10 days old feed on demand and feed milk what a numpty, we have only just started giving R boiled water in between feeds and that's only because we are trying to extend the time in between feeds so he only has a small amount so he is still hungry for milk but the water tides him over.

We have used SMA gold since he was born and had no problems what so ever, in fact we asked the midwife which was best and she said they are all pretty much the same and have the same in them so makes no odds. We asked as we had half a tub of aptamil on the side from when we were topping up to start with. R didn't get on with aptamil didn't like the taste..

Green poo can be an indicator of wind, R has had these since we upped the milk amount he has so we are back to giving infacol for a bit.

I would mention what she has said to your HV at the end of the day she was a student so still learning she needs to be corrected for the future.

iwas told u can give baby water but not as a substitute for food...
We had to change from sma gold as keira wasnt satisfied on this n her poo was constantly green, were now on cow n gate hungry baby n things are slowly improving x

Out of interest why would you change if baby's poo is green? My LO has had SMA since birth and her poo is also green, but she likes her milk, hasn't ever suffered particularly with wind and has never been constipated so just wondered why other people had changed merely on the colour of poo? Have I been poisoning her and not realised??!!

I changed from sma gold as my little boy had green poo after being on nearly 5 weeks and wasn't getting any better he had bad colic too. I am now using hipp organic which i do get slightly green poo but its mainly yellow now and he passes it easier. The sma gold was making his poo sticky and hard to pass x

Im the same i wasnt comfortable wth her having green poo as i knew she was siffering with the wind and colic... I put up with it for 10 weeks and tbh 6oz every 2 hrs wasnt satisfying her and now with her hungry baby milk she goes 2.5 to 4 hrs and seems alot happier x

Seems to be worse now they changed the fat blend for it. Glad i changed milk my first son went onto the Hungary milk for sma across he was grazing on the gold every hour. He loved the six month plus one and toddler sma but the first milks were a nightmare x
