Bit of a weird question but does anyone wear contacts? I have an appt at the weekend for some but a friend has just told me she didnt think you could wear them when your pregnant....? Is this true? :?

I cannot see any reason why not - of course you can wear them when you are pregnant?? I do wear them sometimes and can see no reason why they could/ should/ would effect the baby in anyway?!

I wore them loads throughout my pregnancy............the only thing
I think I read once was your eyes get dryer wearing contacts in pregnancy

maybe that was it then cause your eye's get dry or something. Its hard to know what truth there is in somethings

I don't wear glasses or contacts but it my pregnancy journal on the 20 week page it says the following:

Due to the hormonal changes you are experiencing, you may be having trouble with your eyes - for example contact lenses may be more uncomfortable to wear than usual. These problems should only be temporary, but if you do wear glasses or contact lenses now is a good time to visit your optician for a check-up.

So I suppose you can wear them just be on the look out for changes in comfort, vision etc.

I'm still wearing my contact lenses. I guess if dryness is a problem, some contact-lens friendly eye drops should do the trick.

I wear contacts and they do dry up slightly when pregnant and cause headaches unfortunately but probably not in every case

I've been wearing them throughout my pregnancy with no probs!!

Have some in now too.

I know you're eyes can change when pregnant and become dryer etc whihc can of course affect comfort. But that may or may not happen so i wouldn't worry :)

I wore glasses throughout pregnancy for comfort, but a heads-up for you myopic mums-to-be......

Pregnancy can alter the shape/sight in your eyes a little and your prescription is likely to deteriorate slightly.

My eyes went from 2.5 in early pregnancy to 3.25 now!

I have been wearing my lenses 4/5 days a week before and since I've been pregnant. They do get a bit dry sometimes but nothing major. I still find I can wear them all day at work without problems.

My glasses prescription did go up slightly though. I was having headaches especially on the right side and needed a check up. The prescription went up 0.25 on the one eye. It fixed the headaches but the optician said my eyes might change again once the baby is born.

I think it's important to get regular eye check ups when pregnant. That's why you can get free eye tests on the NHS during pregnancy and up to a year after. :)

That's good to know because I noticed my eye sight has been a bit worse laterly. I guess an eye test is in order :)

I wear them - and I wore them throughout my first pregnancy also.

They do dry up a little more than usual when I'm pregnant, but it's not a major thing for me.

Yes it's true Duds. Free NHS dental treatment and eye tests along with prescriptions. :) Have you got your NHS exemption card? (It's like a credit card with your details on).

hhm when i went in, about the card, she said to me no you cant use it here.

maby she just meant the perscription of the glasses not the test

yes i have....... wouldnt be able to claim it back would I ?

Unfortunately I don't think you can Duds. I had my eyes tested about 3 weeks before I got the card too :( Just bad timing unfortunately.

But I think it's valid for a year after the baby is due so you might be able to get another test next year?
