sorry if this is long, will try to keep it brief but im a bit confused and concerned about what happened today. im not sure where to start.

i see my mw every 2 wks and she was thru yesterday, gave me a check and told me everything was fine, baby's head was about 2/5 -3/5 engaged but that he probably wouldnt fully engage until labour so i was pretty happy. then last night i started having the feeling that i'd wet my pants, there was no 'gush' of water or that but it didnt smell like urine and it was clear. didnt think anything of it until this morning and i woke up and there was a wet patch on my sheet, about 3-4" in size, again didnt smell like urine so i decided to phone the hospital. they told me to come in for an internal to check my back waters hadnt broken.

so i went in and had my internal where i was told it wasnt my waters, it was just a heavy watery discharge, which i was happy enough with as apparently its normal in late pregnancy. i was checked over, heartbeat fine etc, then she had a very hefty squeeze/feel of my stomach which i found painful. i told her i thought it was sore and was shocked at how forceful it had seemed. this wasnt with my regular mw by the way. anyway she then said 'oh ur baby's turned' and said his head was now up at my ribs, which she got me 2 feel, then litterally 2 secs later she said his head was then back down but completely free. i never felt any major movements but i took her word for it.

my regualr mw phoned to see how i got on and i explained what had happened. she couldnt understand why he suddenly unengaged, went breach without organising a scan to check that he wasnt breech as they would need to arrange to try and turn him. she also said it really wasnt normal for that to happen at such a late time. ive tried to google it but cant find anything. can babys unegage? is that normal? has anyone else had a similar thing, im left feeling confused and scared he's going to go back breech and stay that way

sorry know nothing about whether babys can unengage but was having a nose in tri 3 and saw this, just wanted to say i hope u get all the answers u need and sure theres nothing to worry about, hope everything turns out ok xxxx

oh goodness that doesn't sound good. i think babies turn a lot inside there so that's why they always check.. i'm sure if anything was deadly serious they would've told you to come back in straight away though so let that keep your mind at peace! maybe that's why you had a watery discharge, because baby is moving around a lot. i don't know what to suggest but i know googling will probably make you worry more! maybe you can give your mw a call again just to make you feel at peace, as that is their job, to be there for you! hope you don't worry too much hun and sure all will be fine :) xx

my we one has been head down since my 28 wk scan, went 1/5 engaged at 33 wks, stayed that way until last week when i was told he had engaged a bit further so i dont understand how all of a sudden out of the blue, at this stage he would just pop out and so easily turn upside down and around about.
im just tiny and my bump is really tight and all baby so my mw said if he had turned like that i wouldnt of really felt it cause he's packed up real tight in there. thats why i dont understand

It's very unusual for a baby who is engaged to come out, flip upside down and then back again when you're only days from your due date! As anyone who has had a breech baby will tell you, it's not easy to get them to turn round - I think it's far more likely that she felt his bum, thought it was his head, realised she was wrong and told you that he'd turned again so that she wouldn't look stupid x

thanks

thats what i thought, because i never felt a huge movemnt and since hes been head down for so long i didnt see why he thought he'd have a change of direction. and so easily like that. she has written in my notes that his head is free now. im gettin checked by my regualr mw when shes back on mon i think. she said maybe she felt his shoulders thinking it was his head therefore thinking he wasnt engaged.

i hope thats the case, i just dnt know what to think. google seemed to say babys dont unengage but then some sites say they do.

 never thought of it like that, but that may well be the case! i think that sounds more likely anyway! xx

hopfully that was the case lol, my dad agrees.

on a bigger disapointing note though, when i got my internal she said my cervix had no sign it had started to soften yet :( why do i get the feeling im going to have another couple of weeks to wait rather than just days.

is it your first? i'm kinda hoping i'll be a bit late as i still have so much to organise - kinda having a housing crisis - eek! people always say first is always early, sure that's just a myth though!

yeah its my first. ive always been told your first is late lol guess it just shows u its 6 n half a dozen, they'll just come when they're ready and my wee one clearly isnt hehe x

Oh honey how confusing for you, I agree though I think she didn't feel his head at all, how could all that happen so quickly without you feeling it. I'm sure your MW will confirm he's the right way on monday. I've always been told first ones are normally late, Ria I want to talk to who you've been talking to lol. You're right claireo baby will come when ready, good luck to you both, you're are both so very close now xx

oh honey can understand your confusement. What a day. I would try not to worry and have to say i agree with sams mum it would be very unusual for a baby to turn at this stage without you knowing. I would push to be seen again asap by our mw and see what she has to say. When is your next appointment?

my mw is either going to come see me on monday so just got to wait the weekend. im hoping she did get it wrong. i felt better after speaking to my regualr mw on phone and now feel even better after speaking to you guys. so thanks everyone :) i swear by the time this wee one comes out im going to be grey, i never thought pregnancy would be so stressful but im great at gettin myself worked up scared somethings wrong haha. what a wimp

Glad you're feeling better :) Hope your normal midwife tells you he's still head down and engaged x
