Woke up yesterday morning to what i thought was a tingling spot on my lip, turns out its a coldsore. I have never had one before and was wondering if its due to pregnancy??? dont know where its from as OH has never had one either.

Anyway i dashed up to boots and bought some Zoverix (sp) and applied it like every hour yesterday thinking it would die down.
Woke up this morning and its still tingling and taking over the corner of my mouth..... ewwwwww
What can i do? How long will it take to go? And am i using the right cream?

I don't get them but do know about them. Joys of healthcare work

They can be passed on easily, you might have given someone a peck who wasn't showing any visible symptoms and picked up the virus then. It may be you have carried it for years and its been dormant and if you are a bit run down atm its flared up. Many people carry the virus and never know it as they don't have flare ups. Don't kiss your OH or anyone else on the lips while you have it as it can be passed on. Avoid oral sex also (read section titled 'Prevention' from the link below) Have a read of all the sections from this link about it :)

If you get self concious of it you can always get these little sticker things you put over it that are flesh coloured and do a good job of hiding it if it gets too unsightly.

And yes, sounds like the right cream you are using.

I get coldsores. They are HORRIBLE and make you feel lousy too. Fortunately I only get about one a year and normally when I'm run down.
Check with your doctor though about the Zovirax. I asked the pharmacist when I was pregnant and he advised not to use it in pregnancy.
The stickers that Sherlock mentioned are brilliant though. First of all they hide it and secondly they clear it really really quickly. Much more quickly than with anything else I've tried.

i get them but I use compeed patches- my coldsores are normally gone within 48 hours and I can wear makeup over the compeed patch. I know when I'm going to get one though so normally put the patch on the day before!

I asked my pharmacist if I could use Zovirax during pregnancy and he said it was ok. I smear the stuff on all through the tingly phase, if Im too late and the coldsore develops I still use it to shorten the life of it and to st from spreading. I get them loads of them, especially when I go away somewhere hot so always take it on holiday- I think sunlight can trigger them.

Somebody introduced me to Compeed last time and i think they are very good, not so good on the corner-of-the-mouth coldsores though.

I think we should get all the pharmacists, doctors and health visitors in the world together in a little room and tell them to give us the same sodding advice! It would save us all so much confusion! xx

dont kno hun iv been lucky enough to escape them somehow but i believe they are so contagious- dont kiss harrison while its there else he'll have the virus for ever too! :(

Well thanks for the advice ladies but i went to my mums for tea tonight she took one look at me and said it looks like Impetigo (spelling) not a coldsore, its like loads of little blistered bubbles in one group but it looks really gammy. YUK.

I'll be staying away from Harrison and Lee while its like this, i have the midwife on weds morning so while im down there i'll get her to shout a doc in and take a peek for me.
