Teddy has been exposed to chickenpox :(

I am living in my mum and dads living room with Teddy and my brothers girlfriend who lives here has just come up in spots that have been diagnosed with chickenpox. She has been holding him and obviously as we are living in very confined space he has been exposed to this for the last 3 days :(

How ill is this going make him? Will it be serious...hes only 8 weeks :(

He could still be immune from you, I think they say till they are about 3 months. My youngest was only 16 weeks when he caught it and I know that seems a lot older but its not really. He developed spots 14 days after my eldest daughter did and he was absolutely fine. He got it the mildest of the 3. He wasn't ill really it was just the spots and with him he only had about 20-30 big spots were the other 2 had hundreds of little ones.

Its really hard seeing your LO ill even if its just a common cold because they cant tell you how they are feeling and we want to protact them as much as we can.

Maia hasnt had chickenpox but my friends little girl has had it just last week and she was fairly poorly with it for about 5 days. I think its better for children to get it when they are young, the older you get the iller you will be in adulthood chicken pox is shingles and can make you ill for weeks, even months. Also I know you would prefer it if Ted didnt get chicken pox at all but once they have had it they cant get it again. I had it when I was about 7 and I scratched and scratched and scarred myself whereas babies I think dont tend to scratch as much as older kids would.

i work in a nursery and its going around at the min but the babies under a yr hardly ever seem to get it, think it is something to do with their immunity so hopefully ur little one will be ok x

If you're breastfeeding and you've had chickenpox then there is very very little chance of him getting it. My nieces caught it just before I gave birth to ds1 and my midwife said there was no problem exposing him to it when he was born. Fingers crossed he doesn't get it

My friends girl had it last week too.....I see you live in west yorkshire, maybe it's the same friend!!!

Hope Ted is ok hun. I think the incubation period is around 10-21 days so if he hasn't got it after 21 days from exposure he's prob clear. xxxx
